Not to be confused with Home In The Hills, a race in Grand Theft Auto Online.

CJ: “Man...You gave your multi million-dollar mansion to a motherfucking pusher?”
Madd Dogg: “You know, CJ. These things happen! I was powerless!”
CJ: “You fucking degenerate! Ah, man! How much blow can one guy snort?!”
Carl Johnson and Madd Dogg argue after CJ finds out what happened to Dogg's mansion.

A Home in the Hills is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by the Mountain Cloud Boys Triad boss Wu Zi Mu from his office at The Four Dragons Casino, a casino located along The Strip in Las Venturas, San Andreas, and brings the player back to Los Santos.

Mission[]

Kendl, Carl and Woozie are in Woozie's office in the Four Dragons Casino, judging auditions for casino talent. After a while, Madd Dogg appears and tells everyone that he wants to returns to his mansion in Los Santos. However, it has been seized by the Los Santos Vagos, namely their leader Big Poppa, in exchange for drugs. Carl furiously questions Madd Dogg's decision then tells Woozie and Kendl to come with him as they return to Los Santos to reclaim Madd Dogg's crib, which CJ wishes to use as a new base of operations in Los Santos since Grove Street is no longer safe. The scene changes to him and a couple of Triad gang members seen in an Andromada plane, preparing to battle the Vagos as Carl receives a phone call from Kendl.

Kendl says she, Madd Dogg and Cesar have gone to San Fierro to see if everything is in place before returning to Los Santos. When the plane reaches its destination, the Triads and Carl all jump out, parachute to the helipad on the roof of Madd Dogg's mansion and kill all of the Vagos on the rooftop before the rest of the team arrives, including Guppy.

Once all the Vagos outside are dead, the team shoot their way inside the mansion and finally find Big Poppa. Guppy and another Triad secure the balcony and Carl's rear from more Vagos while Carl chases Big Poppa down through the mansion until they reach the exit, where Big Poppa enters his Phoenix and escapes with Carl following him in a pink Windsor. After a chase around the city, Carl kills Big Poppa and officially takes back the mansion for Madd Dogg.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Try to land on the mansion roof with the Triads.
  • Get to the mansion roof and help the Triads. (If the player misses to land on the mansion roof)
  • Help keep the roof clear until the Triads arrive.
  • The Triads have nearly arrived, don't let any of them die once they land.
  • Take the Triads inside the mansion.
  • Search the mansion for Big Poppa and kill anyone who gets in your way.
  • Big Poppa is downstairs, take him out.
  • Big Poppa is making a run for it, chase after him!
  • Big Poppa has left the mansion, follow him.
  • Chase down Big Poppa and run him off the road!
  • You have taken back Madd Dogg's mansion.

Deaths[]

Reward[]

  • An increase in respect and the next mission, Vertical Bird, is unlocked.
  • Madd Dogg's mansion located in Mulholland is now unlocked and available as a safehouse, also a new place to play the Basketball minigame and go to the gym. The mansion does not offer a storage garage, so utilize the nearby Mulholland Safehouse for storing vehicles.
    • It is strongly recommended that the player doesn't save in Madd Dogg's mansion and instead opts for the Mulholland Safehouse, as saving in the mansion will cause the nearby basketball minigame, and basically every other basketball court to be permanently disabled, due to the save file being close to the basketball court.

Carl, Woozie, and Kendl are mediating auditions at The Four Dragons Casino. A man of small stature is auditioning.
Auditionee: (singing) Don't hate the little man, 'cause he's packing a 6 shooter!
Kendl: Next.
CJ: Thank you.
Auditionee: Thank you? Thank you?! Do you know how much balls it takes to stand down here and sing a song like that? It takes guts!
Woozie: I'm sorry. We're just looking for something with a little more mass appeal.
Auditionee: What could have more mass appeal than a song like "Small But Perfectly Formed"? Women want me. Men want to be like me! Assholes!
The auditionee leaves angrily and disappointedly.
Kendl: (laughs) You gotta be kidding me, right?
CJ: Damn! This casino game is hard work. I thought it was just a case of opening the doors and letting suckers give you their money.
Woozie: If only.
Kendl: You know what? I'm getting bored here. I'm trying to do business, not audition midgets.
Woozie: People of reduced stature, you mean.
Kendl: Yeah, yeah, I said that. All I know is, when are we gonna get some real talent in here?
CJ: I heard that.
Madd Dogg arrives.
CJ: Madd Dogg!
Madd Dogg: CJ! I'm clean, dude!
CJ: That's good news, man. Hey, what's cracking? You ready to take it to the stage again?
Madd Dogg: Easy, CJ, c'mon man. One step at a time, you know? I'm almost ready, but, but...
CJ: But what?
Madd Dogg: I want to go home now, CJ.
CJ: That's cool, man, I'll take you. Where's home?
Madd Dogg: My mansion, baby.
Kendl: Yeah, I heard about that place. Drugs, sex, all that shit.
Madd Dogg: Yeah, you know it - but...
CJ: Yeah, yeah I been there... I mean, I seen it on TV.
Madd Dogg: Yeah.
CJ: Nice crib.
Madd Dogg: Thanks, player.
CJ: We could do with a place like that to set up in LS again, wait for Sweet. Get things moving. Get out dis midget game.
Madd Dogg: But, CJ... C'mon, man...
CJ: What? I saved your life, man!
Madd Dogg: My mansion ain't big enough. Only got 19 bedrooms, you hear? A'ight, man, my mansion's been seized.
Woozie: IRS?
Madd Dogg: Nah, not exactly.
CJ: Who?
Madd Dogg: Nobody.
CJ: Who, Madd Dogg?
Madd Dogg: A'ight, Big Poppa.
CJ: Big Poppa, the drug dealer? Man... you gave your multi million-dollar mansion to a motherfucking pusher?
Madd Dogg: You know, CJ, these things happen. I was powerless!
CJ: You fucking degenerate! Oh - man! How much blow can one guy snort?
Madd Dogg: It's not my fault, CJ!
CJ: Man, I should have let you jump! Come with me. All of you! We're all going home.
Everyone except Woozie prepare to return to Los Santos. An Andromada flies towards Los Santos. CJ and The Triads are in the plane preparing to parachute to Madd Dogg's mansion. CJ's phone rings.
CJ: Hello.
Kendl (voice only): Hey, what's up, Carl?
CJ: Hey Kendl, wassup?
Kendl (voice only): Nothing - just thought I'd wish you luck. We're gonna drive back to uh San Fierro first. Wanna check things out there before we hook up with you guys in Los Santos.
CJ: Alright cool, you be careful.
Kendl (voice only): I'll be fine, I got Cesar and Madd Dogg to keep me safe. You be careful.
CJ: I will. I'll see you in Los Santos. (to Guppy) Me and you gonna go in to clear the place out.
Guppy: Good idea - the element of surprise.
CJ: So the rest of the crew can move in in peace.
The scene changes to the mansion where few Triads land on the rooftop and take on the Vagos. The plane's ramp opens so that CJ and The Triads can jump.
Guppy: You ever jumped before?
Triad Member #1: Nah. You?
Guppy: Nah.
Triad Member #1: When we land, we're going to feel invincible!
Triad Member #2: I AM INVINCIBLE! (jumps)
Triad Member #1: Hey, wait up! (jumps) WhaaaHOOOOOO!
Triad Member #3: (jumps) WhaaaHEEEEEE!
Triad Member #4: (jumps) WOOOHOOOOOO!
The Triads and CJ jump off the plane and land on the mansion's rooftop. Once landed, they battle the Vagos on the rooftop. After all the Vagos outside are cleared, CJ's crew heads inside.
Triad member #2: We're heavily outnumbered, but if we all keep our heads, we should kick ass!
A Vagos member hiding in the bushes kills the Triad member by shooting him in the head.
Guppy: Bastards! LET'S HIT 'EM!
CJ and The Triads take out the Vagos and reach the corridor.
Guppy: CJ, clear the corridor and we'll clear each room!
While CJ takes on the Vagos in the corridor, Guppy and The Triads clear the rooms.
Vagos: Die motherfuckers, none of you are leaving this house alive!
Guppy: (clears first room) This one's clear!
Triad members: (clears second room) No one in there!
Guppy: (clears third room) OK, it's clear!
Triad members: (clears fourth room) Room clear!
Guppy: (clears fifth room) This one's clear!
Triad members: (clears last room) No one in there!
CJ and The Triads clear the corridor and all the rooms.
Guppy: You go ahead, CJ, we'll hold the balcony!
While The Triads take on the Vagos, CJ heads downstairs to take on the remaining Vagos and finds Big Poppa.
Big Poppa: You chose the wrong house to rob, fool!
CJ chases Big Poppa.
Big Poppa: You don't know who you're fucking with, do you? You trying to fuck with my house, with my shit? I'm a fuck with YOU!
Big Poppa leaves the mansion through the backdoor and attempts to escape in his Phoenix, but CJ follows and chases him down in a pink Windsor. CJ kills him in the car chase, thus taking back Madd Dogg's mansion from the Vagos.

Post-Mission Phone Call[]

CJ: Hey Ken, how you doin'?

Ken: (sniffs) Who is this?

CJ: It's Carl, Carl Johnson!

Ken: Hey, Carl! Great! (sniffs) Guys, it's Carl! Ga-great! I'm-- (sniff) Fucking great! Fucking amazing!

CJ: I've got a need for an accountant and a sound engineer, and I thought of you and Paul.

Ken: Fucking amazing! Paul's great with figures and I'd make a fucking amazing producer! This is (sniffs) this fucking great! It's amazing!

CJ: Yeah, yeah, whatever you say man, but look. See you soon.

Ken: Fucking amazing!

Walkthrough[]

Video Walkthroughs[]

Glitches[]

  • If the host computer is running around 1-10 frames per second, the Triads will miss the roof. However, another one will spawn on the roof if this happens.
  • In the Android version, it has been noted that sometimes Big Poppa will stop running and try to fight CJ in melee combat, however beating him inside the mansion will not finish the mission; instead the body will just stay on the ground as inside the mansion Big Poppa has infinite health so the game does not count him as being deceased. The only way to get past this is to die and restart the mission.[1]

Trivia[]

Site-logo
This article needs to be cleaned up to meet the standards of the GTA Wiki.

  • Inside the mansion, some women using the same model as Denise Robinson can appear.
  • During the mission, Madd Dogg says his mansion has 19 bedrooms, however the actual in-game model features only six.
  • During the short cutscene in which the Triads and Carl enter the mansion, one of the Triads gets decapitated by an SMG shot, despite SMGs not being able to behead pedestrians during normal gameplay. This was done to show the player that this member was actually killed by a headshot and to be the punchline to a situational ironic joke, about the attackers keeping their heads to "kick ass".
  • Big Poppa's Phoenix is an extremely rare car and can be obtained by the player, despite the fact that the vehicle is locked in the mission. The player can block the Phoenix and kill Big Poppa to complete the mission. The vehicle can then be obtained by pushing it to a Pay 'n' Spray or to the nearby garage at the Mulholland Safehouse (sniping Big Poppa will make his body fall out if there is enough space for the driver's door to open, unlocking the Phoenix).
  • Bounce FM is the default radio station for the Windsor given during the mission, as opposed to the usual Master Sounds 98.3.
    • The song that plays on Bounce FM after CJ gets in the car to chase Big Poppa is "Between The Sheets" by The Isley Brothers. This song was sampled in Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G., which was released in 1994, two years after the setting of GTA SA.
  • The pink Windsor has a unique license plate which reads "J LOMAX". The player can keep the Windsor after the mission is completed.
  • While preparing to parachute from the plane, Carl will jump out of it automatically without being controlled by the player.
  • If Carl fails to land on the roof of Madd Dogg's mansion, the mission will not be failed. Carl then needs to find an alternative route to it.
  • Also, if Carl lands close to the mansion roof looking the same way to the Vagos as the Triads and shoots the Vagos from the grass to the left of the mansion, he can gain a 5-star wanted level without being detected by any cops and/or FBI agents (either in Police Mavericks or News Choppers).
  • For some reason, the parachute that the Triads have is unique, as it has a different shape, texture, and seems to be an altogether different parachute. This parachute is unobtainable through normal gameplay.
    • Furthermore, the Triads land properly, unlike CJ, who always does the glitched diving animation when reaching the roof.
  • After Big Poppa goes outside, the player can also exit the house through the other exit. The rest of the mission will be the same (tested on the iPad version).
  • If Big Poppa dies before he exits the mansion, then the game soft-locks and the mission cannot be completed. The only way to exit this situation is to reload a save file or to die. Getting busted isn't an option since the wanted level is locked at zero stars (tested on Remastered PlayStation 3 and iOS versions).
  • The short person who auditions in front of Woozie, Carl and Kendl may be related to a ‘Carpenter Chris’ featured on the talk show ‘Lonely Hearts’ on WCTR who is roughly the same height and also constantly drunk.
  • The interior of the Andromada Carl and the Triads are in before parachuting is actually floating in the air above Madd Dogg's mansion, and it disappears once Carl starts parachuting towards the mansion.
