+
In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the car assumes the form of a small luxury sedan resembling a Mercedes-Benz W123, with a rear fascia similar to a BMW 3 Series (E30). In GTA San Andreas, it appears to feature a minor 1990s facelift. Its design remains unchanged otherwise throughout the 3D Universe.

  +
Grand Theft Auto IV
The Dundreary Admiral is a 4-door sedan featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

  +
In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Dundreary Admiral sports a completely different design, now designed as a full-size luxury car similar to the Washington and Oracle. It features an American design with very subtle Japanese and German styling cues, mainly resembling a cross between a Mercury Grand Marquis#Fourth generation (2003–2011), Toyota Crown#Ninth generation (S140; 1991), and a Infiniti Q45#Second generation (Y33; 1997–2000), with minor influences from the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W202), particularly the headlights. The front bumper seems to be borrowed from the Ford Crown Victoria#Second generation (EN114; 1998–2012), evident by the lower grille, however, with a flatter profile, similar to the Lincoln LS. The grille of the car is a mix of the Grand Marquis, W202, and the Cadillac de Ville series#Eighth generation (2000–2005). On the bonnet, the Admiral features an ornament that seems to be borrowed from either the Mercedes or the de Ville. The rear fascia seems to be a blend of the Crown's rear, Infiniti Q45 rear and the Toyota Corona#Corona Premio (T210; 1996) rear. The tail lights have a similar layout and shape to the Toyota Camry#V10 (1982–1986); however, the main light is divided and a badge is featured on the reverse light, similar to the Buick Riviera#Sixth generation (1979–1985). The C-pillar and the roof line are identical to the ones found on the Lincoln Town Car#Third generation (FN145; 1998–2011). Interestingly, the Admiral appears to be a long-wheelbase model. Certain design cues were carried over from the 3D Universe Admiral, most notably the turn signals at the front and rear, which wrap around the back and side of both renditions of the vehicle.

  +
The Admiral is equipped with a GPS system with a male voice, but only if the player leaves the "selected cars" (default) option in the audio menu.
Design
In GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City Stories, the car resembles a 1980s Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W123), with a front facia similar to the Volvo 240. In GTA San Andreas, it appears to feature a minor 1990s facelift, although in reality, at this point of time, the W123 was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz W124. The design remains unchanged throughout 3D Universe.

  +
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
In GTA IV, the Admiral sports a completely different design with no reminiscence to the previous renditions. Gone with the Mercedes appearance, it is now based on the 2003-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis with taillights from the 11th generation Toyota Crown, having some minor influences from the 2001 Audi A8. Interestingly, the Admiral appears to be a long wheelbase model, despite the fact that the long wheelbase Grand Marquis was only availible in the Middle East.

  +
In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the design of the car depends on the platform:
  +
*In the Nintendo DS version, The Admiral resembles a Mercedes-Benz W210, and as such it can be considered as a predecessor to the Schafter.
  +
*In the Portable version, the car appears closer to the GTA IV rendition than the DS version was, although significantly blockier in look and still retaining a major Mercedes influence in its design.

3D Universe
In the GTA III-era, performance wise, the car is generally acceptable with light weight, stable handling, and good acceleration and top speed, to the point it is offered as a starter car which the player may first control in GTA Vice City. Surprisingly, it is front-wheel drive, in contrast to the E-Class or Volvo 200 which are both rear-wheel drive, making it quite suspectible to understeer. The GTA Vice City and San Andreas renditions has the same engine sound as the Sentinel, while the GTA Vice City Stories rendition has the same engine sound as the Landstalker and the Patriot.

In the 3D Universe, performance wise, the car is generally acceptable with light weight, stable handling, and good acceleration and top speed, to the point it is offered as a starter car which the player may first control in GTA Vice City. Surprisingly, it is front-wheel drive, in contrast to the Mercedes 190 or BMW E30 which are both rear-wheel drive, making it quite susceptible to understeer. However, in the transaction cutscene in Vice City, one can notice that after Tommy leaps in through the window and Rosenberg drives away, the rear wheels swirl before he drives away.

  +
In GTA Vice City Stories, the Admiral has a slightly better performance in comparison to its other counterparts, as it has a higher top speed and is lighter in mass.
In GTA IV, it is powered by a large V8 engine with a RWD configuration coupled to a 5-speed transmission. Acceleration is good but not great (0-60mph in 7.8 seconds), and handling is as to be expected; the sheer weight and the comfort-oriented suspension does have its disadvantages. The top speed is a rather impressive 172 mph (276kmh). Despite ABS as standard, it takes a long time to stop the heavy saloon completely. The Admiral, however, is very resilient to crashes thanks to its bulky construction. The weight is also useful for ramming other vehicles off the road. The Admiral is rather rare, it is more common to find it in limo form, the Stretch.

In GTA IV, it is powered by what appears to be a large V8 engine, with a RWD configuration coupled to a 5-speed transmission. Acceleration is average and handling is as to be expected; the sheer weight and the comfort-oriented suspension does have its disadvantages. Despite this, the Admiral has decent ground clearance and a wider stance, allowing it to sort out rough surfaces better than most cars in its class. Additionally, the top speed is rather impressive for its type, although it takes a long time to stop the heavy saloon completely after letting off the throttle. However, the car is very resilient to crashes thanks to its bulky construction, and the weight is also useful for ramming other vehicles off the road. This, in addition to its high top speed make it a good vehicle for getaways and pursuits.

Latest revision as of 16:05, 13 March 2024

The Admiral is a four-door sedan featured in both the 3D Universe and HD Universe. It is manufactured by Dundreary in the HD Universe.

Influence

3D Universe

Efficient German cruiser. Popular with commuter belt middle men.
— GTA Vice City Website.

In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the car assumes the form of a small luxury sedan resembling a Mercedes-Benz W123, with a rear fascia similar to a BMW E30. In GTA San Andreas, it appears to feature a minor 1990s facelift. Its design remains unchanged otherwise throughout the 3D Universe.

Grand Theft Auto IV

In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Dundreary Admiral sports a completely different design, now designed as a full-size luxury car similar to the Washington and Oracle. It features an American design with very subtle Japanese and German styling cues, mainly resembling a cross between a 2003–2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, ninth-generation Toyota Crown, and a second generation Infiniti Q45, with minor influences from the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W202), particularly the headlights. The front bumper seems to be borrowed from the second generation Ford Crown Victoria, evident by the lower grille, however, with a flatter profile, similar to the Lincoln LS. The grille of the car is a mix of the Grand Marquis, W202, and the eighth-generation Cadillac de Ville. On the bonnet, the Admiral features an ornament that seems to be borrowed from either the Mercedes or the de Ville. The rear fascia seems to be a blend of the Crown's rear, Infiniti Q45 rear and the Toyota Corona Premio rear. The tail lights have a similar layout and shape to the 1982–1986 Toyota Camry (V10); however, the main light is divided and a badge is featured on the reverse light, similar to the sixth-generation Buick Riviera. The C-pillar and the roof line are identical to the ones found on the third-generation Lincoln Town Car. Interestingly, the Admiral appears to be a long-wheelbase model. Certain design cues were carried over from the 3D Universe Admiral, most notably the turn signals at the front and rear, which wrap around the back and side of both renditions of the vehicle.

The Admiral is equipped with a GPS system with a male voice, but only if the player leaves the "selected cars" (default) option in the audio menu.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the design of the car depends on the platform:

  • In the Nintendo DS version, The Admiral resembles a Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W210), and as such it can be considered as a predecessor to the Schafter.
  • In the PlayStation Portable version, the car appears closer to the GTA IV rendition than the DS version was, although significantly blockier in look and still retaining a major Mercedes influence in its design.

Performance

3D Universe

In the 3D Universe, performance wise, the car is generally acceptable with light weight, stable handling, and good acceleration and top speed, to the point it is offered as a starter car which the player may first control in GTA Vice City. Surprisingly, it is front-wheel drive, in contrast to the Mercedes 190 or BMW E30 which are both rear-wheel drive, making it quite susceptible to understeer. However, in the transaction cutscene in Vice City, one can notice that after Tommy leaps in through the window and Rosenberg drives away, the rear wheels swirl before he drives away.

In GTA Vice City Stories, the Admiral has a slightly better performance in comparison to its other counterparts, as it has a higher top speed and is lighter in mass.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Prominent Appearances in Missions

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • In The Beginning... - Ken Rosenberg owns a white Admiral, in which he waits for Tommy and the others for the meet. After discovering that's an ambush, Tommy jumps into the car and him and Ken flee from there. His Admiral becomes available as soon as the cutscene ends, in the alley beside Ken's office.
  • Jury Fury - The Admiral is one of the two cars that have to be smashed in this mission.
  • Guardian Angels - Ricardo Diaz arrives in the meet with the cubans in a nearly indestructible white Admiral, that can be obtained by failing the mission.
  • Check Out at the Check In - Three black Admirals appear and pursue Tommy after leaving the airport with the briefcase, following the main road.
  • Loose Ends - One Admiral spawns blocking the entrance, and another beside a Pony and an explosive barrel. All the three vehicles are black.
  • Sunshine Autos Import Garage - The Admiral is one of the 24 vehicles wanted by Sunshine Autos for its import garage. Placed on the second list.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

  • Los Sepulcros - An "all-proof" Admiral is used to flee the cemetery after Carl Johnson kills Kane.
  • Stowaway - If the player jumps out of the Andromada without a parachute during the mission, a cutscene plays showing Carl landing on the roof of a parked Admiral, killing him and destroying the Admiral.
  • You've Had Your Chips - The Sindaccos use two Admirals with unique colours (brown and turquoise) during the mission.
  • Exports and Imports - The Admiral is one of the 30 vehicles wanted for the side-mission. Placed on the first list.

Notable Owners

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • Ken Rosenberg owns a white Admiral.
  • Ricardo Diaz owns a gray Admiral, which is parked outside his mansion. Following his death, the vehicle still spawns occasionally, presumably now acquired by Tommy Vercetti.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

  • Kane owned a grey Admiral.
  • The Sindaccos use Admirals in GTA San Andreas.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories

  • Victor Vance owns a fleet of Admirals, which can be seen parked outside his Loan Shark business sites.

The Ballad of Gay Tony

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

  • Huang Lee owns a Triad variant of the Admiral.
  • Wade Heston owns a matte-black Admiral, which was given to him by his wife before they divorced.

Locations

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • It is found everywhere in Vice City.
  • Parked at a mansion on northwest Starfish Island, near a rampage. Use a helicopter to get into the garden, then use the ramp to get out.
  • Parked on the left side of the stairs on the Vercetti Mansion after the events of Rub Out. It is usually replacing the Stretch though both the Stretch and the Admiral may also spawn at the same time.
  • Parked in the alleyway beside the Hotel Harrison after the Introduction where the player first takes control of Tommy Vercetti

Admiral-Manhunt2

An Admiral in Manhunt 2.

3D Universe

  • The Admiral is the first vehicle seen in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
  • The Admiral in the PC version of GTA Vice City is much darker compared to the PS2 version.

Comparison between the Admiral in the PC version (left) and the PS2 version (right) of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

  • In GTA Vice City Stories, the Admiral shares the same engine and horn with the Landstalker, implying it have a larger engine (presumably a V8) than the other predecessors. It also have the door sounds of older cars, which is odd for a luxury sedan.
  • During the development of GTA Vice City, the car originally had Grand Theft Auto III tyre rims.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Grand Theft Auto IV

  • In the second Bernie Crane mission known as Union Drive, the Admiral will meet his standards as an "awful and intimidating" vehicle.
  • The Admiral features a hood ornament of the Dundreary corporate badge. This reflects the fact that the Admiral is based on the Grand Marquis, as the LS trim of the latter offered a Limited Edition version from 2003 to 2005, of which one of the features was a Mercury emblem hood ornament.

Grand Theft Auto V

  • The Admiral does not return in Grand Theft Auto V, but wrecked versions can be seen in the scrapyards (also used in GTA IV). Also, the horn sound can be found in the iFruit app files.
