Mac OS are a series of graphical user interface-based operating systems developed by Apple Inc. It is the first operating system operated under Macintosh line-of-computers. It is known for being the first system aimed at the general public have a graphical interface consisting of mouse interaction with windows, icons, etc. Apple deliberately sought to minimize the existence of the operating system in the early years of its Macintosh line ensuring that the machine it more user friendly, thus differentiating it from other operating environments such as MS-DOS, which was a technical challenge. The first version was first released in 1984 and about 9 versions of Mac OS were released, with Mac OS 9 (the final version) launched in 1999. It is then succeeded by Mac OS X.

Mac OS X

Mac OS X is the line of graphical operating systems developed and retailed by Apple Inc. which succeeded the original Mac OS, which had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984. Unlike the earlier Macintosh operating system, OS X is a Unix-based operating system built on technology developed at NeXT from the second half of the 1980s until early 1997, when Apple purchased the company.
