The Battersea Mods are a street gang appearing in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 as the main group of antagonists during the Mods and Sods chapter.
Description[]
As their name suggests, they are a gang inspired by the mod subculture in the late 1960s. Elements of the mod subculture include fashion (often tailor-made suits), music (mainly jazz) and motor scooters.
Their in-game depiction, however, is the same as the other gangs – normal pedestrians in light-blue clothing. Despite being called the "Battersea Mods", the gang is never seen in Battersea. Instead, they own a clubhouse in Chelsea.
One of the protagonists of GTA London, Rodney Morash, is also depicted as being part of that subculture, but he is not a member of the gang.
Events of Grand Theft Auto: London 1969[]
The Mods gang started hassling the Crisp Twins at some point before 1969, while the GTA London Protagonist was doing some unknown work for them in the United States.
Once they return to London, the protagonist is contacted by Harold Cartwright's associate Pretty Charlie, who gives jobs to the protagonist via red phoneboxes, including retrieving Harold's stolen drugs which he wants to use to lure the Mods, disrupting one of the Mods' drug deals on a rooftop of a building in Westminster, and stealing their Mod Scooter.
The Mods make one last, minor appearance during the Chelsea Smile chapter. A member of the Mods attempts to disrupt Jack Parkinson's plan to kidnap a Member of Parliament and get a reward from Buckingham Palace for returning him safely. The Mods member intercepts the Royal Stretch where the MP is, so he could claim the reward from the palace. The protagonist eventually finds him and delivers the MP to the palace, and receives £6,000 as a reward.
The gang is never mentioned again after this mission.
