He has been famous since 1980 as the lead singer/tambourinist of Ambulance, a "power pop reggae afro-beat" band. He claims that his two bandmates (one named Trev) were his best friends since childhood. Crow got 80% of the band's royalties, and left the band in three days before a world tour after ugly arguments over said royalties. His first solo project was a 1984 charity concert in Africa (all according to the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories website).
In 1998, he appears on LCFR having an interview with Melissa Chowder to promote his concert, Crowfest '98 at Liberty Memorial Coliseum. After playing a tape of their first meeting (about him influencing a native tribe in the jungles of Peru), Crow declares his love for her. In 2008, in a Grand Theft Auto IV television commercial, he announces a large concert in Iran (calling it a "reunion").
It is revealed during the interview in LCFR that he is using an unknown drug as an escape from reality.
Crow's single name, activism and love of tantric sex mean he is likely a parody of rock star Sting. Crow assumes the appearance of a pedestrian from GTA San Andreas, but without face paint. Ironically, this is the same pedestrian that is notable for bearing an uncanny resemblance to Kurt Cobain, the late singer/guitarist of grunge and rock band Nirvana. He is voiced by Gregg Martin in two appearances.
