Charge Island is an insular neighborhood in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars located in the Humboldt River.

Description[]

Officially part of the borough of Dukes, Charge Island lies between Algonquin to the west, Dukes to the east, and Bohan to the north. The island is predominantly dedicated to industrial activity, hence its name "Charge Island"; flanked by a water treatment facility and overshadowed by the enormous East Borough Bridge, it is decidedly unappealing for residential development. The island also features a boathouse, a cargo dock and a fuel repository, with an oil tanker docked there at the time of GTA IV. A grove traversed by a creek lies on the west coast of the island. A baseball field is located to the north, bounded by the unnamed road that traverses the island.

Influence[]

Charge Island is based on Randalls and Wards Island but may also draw some inspiration from Bronx Kill, although Bronx Kill is much smaller in real life. The small creek is based on the Little Hell Gate in the middle of the island and the unnamed channel to the east is based on Hell Gate in Astoria.

Events of Grand Theft Auto[]

Grand Theft Auto IV & The Ballad of Gay Tony[]

In Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend (GTA IV) and Ladies Half Price (TBoGT), Niko and Packie, holding Gracie hostage, meet up with Tony and Luis at Charge Island Sewage Works to release Gracie in exchange for the diamonds. The exchange is disrupted by an attack from Ray Bulgarin's men.
