Welcome to GTA Wiki's Community noticeboard.

Archives

Talk page rules apply here.

This noticeboard is for discussion and voting on changes to the wiki, reporting vandalism and wiki rule breaking, and reporting bad or unfair behaviour from GTA Wiki staff.

For requests for promotion, please go to GTA Wiki:Requests for Promotion.

We currently have a lot of staff so there will be no more Patroller requests for a while. Current Patrollers may request to be promoted to Admin status by voting on the Requests for Promotion Page.

Voting Rules
Since voting about a change can cause arguments, here are the rules.

  • Anyone can start a topic for a community vote.
  • Please be civil when voting, and never condemn another users vote.
  • Voting usually lasts 3 to 5 days.

Image Policy 'group'

This idea was suggested by User:Instulent.

So, a few weeks, during a chat conversation, Instulent suggested to create a group of editors who will keep an eye on the files uploading and inform admins in case of images policy violations.

This idea is meant to maintain the images uploadings during and after the release of GTA V.

So, what do you think? -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 18:18, August 25, 2013 (UTC)

Featured Images

Hi guys. Basically, I think that we should take down the Featured Images section of the main page. I think this because I believe that it looks messy, boring and frankly, I never notice it. So yeah, I think it should be taken down. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 16:55, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

  • I agree with the idea, and Instu's idea is good too, but I think the purpose of that particular section is showing "good quality" images, I think that's the only reason for it being placed there. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 10:34, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Introducing the new Welcome Automessage!

Passed - 9 votes of 'Yes' and no votes of 'No' -- VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 23:02, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

Ladies and Gents. Dodo8 and I have here, the wiki's replacement to that redundant and old automated message. The Template:Welcome. This will get the wiki's contributors more interested in editing and will flourish a lot of trusted editors, let alone Staff. Please imput your votes about adding this message in lieu of the old automated message and comments about this template below. --Tony1998 (Talk * Contribs)-- 07:29, August 5, 2013 (UTC)

Staff status

FAILED - 4 votes of 'No' and 2 votes of 'Yes' -- VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 23:02, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

The status of the staff member should be written under his name, to let any user know who to contact form staff members. A lot of wikis have done this thing, one of them is the Battlefield Wiki, see there staff.

for example:

McJeff-StaffAvatar Messi1983-StaffAvatar TheTom-StaffAvatar
Flag of the United States McJeff

Status: active

Flag of the United Kingdom Messi1983

Status: semi-active

Flag of the United Kingdom The Tom

  • I don't see the point, considering that most of us are active. Adding this would promote patrollers to write demotions against semi-active admins/bureaucrats.Dodo8 Talk
  • Well, I agree with Dodo. Besides it, I don't think Messi is semi-active. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 16:41, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
  • As per Dodo. Plus, Tommy, check Dan's page. -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 17:44, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
  • I think it is actually quite a good idea. It helps users learn about the staff more and helps them know what member of staff is active for them to talk to, incase they are in need of help. VaultBoy Tom (Talk to me this way) 23:25, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
  • I don't see the point in doing this, either. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 10:11, August 5, 2013 (UTC)
  • It is what it is. If a user needs help and messages a semi-active staff member, then the whole purpose of the staff is pointless. The user doesn't get help, and if a semi active alert was in place, that user would get a quick response from an active staff member. Why cripple the system? Lets improve it! Adding flags to the different language GTA Wikis

Passed - 3 votes of 'Yes', one vote of 'Undecided' and 0 votes of 'No' --VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 17:00, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

I got this idea. We should add the flag icon near the name of the different language GTA Wikis.

for example:

The GTA Wiki is also available in:Flag of SpainEspañolFlag of ItalyItalianaFlag of PortugalPortuguêsFlag of Iraqعربية.

Affiliations to R* games' Wikis

FAILED - five votes of 'No', and only four votes of 'Yes'. -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 05:43, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

This is a big project, like Rockstar Games has been developing games for more than ten years, Rockstar made a lot of fans around the world. Most of the users here on the GTA Wikia integrate with other Wikis too, most of them are from R* games. I'm giving the idea, that we should make affiliations to Wikis that are from Rockstar content. They are so good like us and most of our users, even Staff members, contribute to those Wikis, I'm proposing, that we should show our loyalty to these Wikis and that will maybe make us more noted by the other Wikis. The proposes are the Max Payne Wiki, Red Dead Wiki, Rockstar Games Wiki, L.A Noire Wiki, Bully Wiki, Manhunt Wiki and Midnight Club Wiki.

Note : If you want to strike one of the Wikis that you disagree with affiliation or you find not good or elevated, comment in the comments section and maybe we can create an extra discussion page for it. So let's show that we are a graceful Wiki and we want to show generosity to other R* Games too.

Featured articles system

Passed; 10 votes of 'Yes' and no votes of 'No' -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 12:07, July 25, 2013 (UTC)
Previous discussion on the subject

So yes, I'm bringing this subject again, as it seems we have forgotten about. My one question for now is, do you want such feature on our wiki or not?

Yes, I know we need 'Manuals of Style' for several articles categories such as characters, missions, buisnesses, gangs/groups and a few more. No need for vehicles, J created one.

If you have any suggestions, post them here.

  • I think we could use those "Manuals of Style", and since GTA V is just around the corner, we could use with some guides that could help more un-experienced users (of course, the more experienced ones would follow the guides themselves, too). - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 16:38, July 17, 2013 (UTC)
  • I think it would help readers if the articles for a certain discipline (i.e character, business) had a similar structure, so they can find information easily and conveniently, this is one benefit of having manuals of style. In order to help editors, having one over arching MoS that then contains links to more specific ones, sort of like this (but more complete obviously) could help. JBanton (Talk | Contribs) 16:48, July 17, 2013 (UTC)
  • Yes of course, in each discipline/type this system should be followed, principally by missions. I see often the Trivia after the Video Walkthrough and etc... A order like =1. Mission, 2. Mission Objectives, 3. Reward, 4. Trivia, 5. Video W., 6. See also (References and link to detailed page of mission walkthrough) for example. And of course this Manual should be included in the Welcome Template. --Thomas0802 (talk-Edits) 17:11, July 17, 2013 (UTC)

  • Also, I think next to the featured articles we should add a link to the BAWSAQ page. Warning and block templates

Now, this template idea I've come up with would benefit patrollers mostly. Lately, when such a patroller gives a user a warning most say I'm going to tell a admin on you etc and to me it sounds childish and not very professional but with this template, it's not only professional but it's a smart way to carry out such things. I've done a rough copy of the template seen down below. Let me know what you think down below. Cheers Instulent (talk) 19:02, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

Warning

Template created with my help.

Usage Example

Violating Image Policy produces:

Warning

Danger-icon
You have been warned for violating policy. If you repeat your actions, you will be issued with a block.

Given reason: Violating Image Policy
Issued by: Patroller Dodo8

Dodo8 Talk

Block

Second template created.

Usage Example;

Vandalism produces:

Block

Block-icon
You have been blocked for violating the policy.

Given reason: Vandalism
Issued by: Patroller Dodo8
Expires: 20 May 2050

  • Yes I agree, but this template should be given in certain occasions. If a user (vandal) remove all the content from pages repetitively, then he should be blocked without warning. If he adds false information, messes up infobox and templates or has intolerant edits or something in this type, he should receive this template. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 21:14, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

  • This template or both template needs section which rule did the user violated. For example this user violated offcial policy for adding sexuall content, but he/she needs to know which rule did he/she breake.

for example:

Danger-icon
You have been warned for violating the policy. If you repeat your actions, you will be issued with a block.

Given reason: Violating Official policy
Vilotaed rule: Adding Pornographcal content

        • Yeah, the reason is given in the Given reason section.. Instulent (talk) 10:49, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
          • It should be full, like this:
Given reason: Violating Official policy by adding sexuall content. --Kingrhem 11:10, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • That was just an example, that's how it was supposed to look from the start. You started an useless topic, Kingrhem. And it's "sexual", not "sexuall". See the warning I left to this user who violated the policy.Dodo8 Talk
    • Look, if I wrote words with wrong grammar, that because of either being haungry, sleepy or have to hurry up, at the time I had all three reasons. --Kingrhem (Talk)(Edits) 18:27, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • Nice, both templates. I just think there should be a different template exclusive for image policy, because it's a different case where most of new users still not understanding. If he violates the image policy, he should receive the image policy template, if repeated, the warning template. Actually I think that new users will feel a little afraid if they are threatened with a block because of image policy. BTW could you guys check my new gallery? :D --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 12:28, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • Thomas, that's what the warning template is for.. ;) Instulent (talk) 19:16, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • I agree with the idea. But the argument above was rather silly... - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 18:55, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • It was not silly because image policy is an error that every new user does at the begin. This happens more than two or three times and it would be a little bit rude if we block someone for such a thing without a right and clear information. We are encouraging users to continue editing, and not block them directly for things they don't know. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 19:11, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • First of, Thomas, bullet your comments. Secondly, I think you are a bit confuse: "argument" in english also means "zanga, discussão" in portuguese, whereas "argumento" in portuguese means "point" (as in "That's a good point"). I'm not talking about what you said, OK. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 19:22, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
