Welcome to GTA Wiki's Community noticeboard.

Archives

Talk page rules apply here.

This noticeboard is for discussion and voting on changes to the wiki, reporting vandalism and wiki rule breaking, and reporting bad or unfair behaviour from GTA Wiki staff.

For requests for promotion, please go to GTA Wiki:Requests for Promotion.

We currently have a lot of staff so there will be no more Patroller requests for a while. Current Patrollers may request to be promoted to Admin status by voting on the Requests for Promotion Page.

Voting Rules
Since voting about a change can cause arguments, here are the rules.

  • Anyone can start a topic for a community vote.
  • Please be civil when voting, and never condemn another users vote.
  • Voting usually lasts 3 to 5 days.

Please input your new requests above the old ones. That way, we can easily spot it rather than looking for it.

Template:Welcome

Guys, we need to get this template up and running. I concieved and created this back in July and ran it through the noticeboard. I just updated it (as I type this here). Like I said before, this welcome template will be more helpful for new users on GTA Wiki and/or Wikia. They will know what to do once they read the policies included in the template and who to contact when an act of malice is happening. I don't think we need a "Vote" section because it has been given all "Yes" in the last one, but I'm going to put one up for the hell of it :P. --Tony1998 (Talker * Blogger * Stalker)-- 04:42, December 26, 2013 (UTC)

New image policy template

Hi guys. I'm writing this idea here instead on a blog post to get more attention.

Everyday, the image policy is violated, mostly by new users. Me and other staff members always leave a message on their talk pages to follow the image policy. We post daily these messages. I'm not being lazy, but to post these warning/help messages faster and easier, I created a template for it. See Template:Image policy. Writing {{Image policy}} will formulate this text: When uploading images, please follow our image policy both in naming and licensing. Otherwise the images will be deleted. Important note: Always write your signature after the template.

If you want to change some parts of the text, debate it in the comments section below. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 14:26, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

News Team Staff

News Team Found - VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 19:46, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

Now that we have agreed on there being a wiki news team, we need to see who wants to be in the staff. I'm going to be one of the members and we will need two more people to do it. I will do Mondays, someone else will do one on Thursdays and another user will do one on Sundays. If you want to do it, then vote "Yes" in the votes section and if you don't then put "No" into the votes section. Once this is done, members of staff will vote for who they want to be in it. Staff members who are nominated cannot vote for themselves. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 19:04, November 4, 2013 (UTC)

  • I've shown my interest for this idea, but for family-related reasons, I won't be able to be here, in the schedule we had agreed on. However, if you need any help, I might do something, although I'm not sure about the time I get home. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 11:08, November 9, 2013 (UTC)
  • Of course. I'm thinking of posting news posts like Tips/Tricks in GTA games, trivias, polls, it would be awesome. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 14:29, November 11, 2013 (UTC)
  • Ok, we have our new team!  VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 19:46, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

New Administrator. Solutions.

As you know, Winter Moon has been demoted. So far, three (EDIT: four) patrollers, including me, want to apply for promotion. But which is the best solution? Posting a bunch of requests? I think not. So I thought of doing something like this:

Applied for promotion:

Votes:
Only Bureaucrats and Admins can vote.

ETC.

You can only vote by "Yes", "No", or "See My Comment".

  • Sounds good. I understand it will be an Admin + Bureaucrat only vote? VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 09:01, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • Yup. Dodo8 Talk 16:05, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • This method is good and fast. I hope we could make things fast and easier and without making it too much turbulent :) By the way, Jeff created a test for admin cases (see here) that I found interesting, and I want to fill too. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 10:37, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I also like the look of them. I read them earlier. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 10:45, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
    • They look interesting. It's a nice idea. Dodo8 Talk 16:06, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • I prefer using the word "nominated" instead of "picked", but well, I guess it'a Yes. Nevermind, back to AC4. ^^ -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 19:38, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • I changed it to "nominated". Dodo8 Talk 08:26, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • This method seems like the best way to deal with promoting another admin. Just for the record I'm applying for admin as well. Sasquatch101 (talk) 06:09, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • I don't know. I'll wait to see what Dan and Jeff have to say. There's something about this idea that I don't like, but I'm not sure exactly what that is yet. Also, I think Jeff has his own idea about how to decide, I'd like to hear about that before voting on anything.  Tom Talk 20:55, November 8, 2013 (UTC)
  • I prefer the community vote method. Messi1983 (talk) 21:48, December 24, 2013 (UTC)
    • Same. Wasn't Jeff thinking of a way to help decide? Tom Talk 21:59, December 24, 2013 (UTC)
  • The fairest way to have four people run for the same position, I think, would be to do the following. I'll add a few general knowledge questions to the admin case studies page, things I think admins should know (for example: "In your own words, what is 'assume good faith?'" "Describe a situation in which you should not use your powers to block someone. Then I'll have all people interested in running for the promotion fill it out and email it to me (this is so people don't influence each other's answers). Then I'll post everyone's answers. Then we have a vote where people can specify 'yes', 'no', and optionally one person as 'first choice', which would mean that although that candidate isn't the only one qualified he's the one you think would be best. In the event of a tie of yesses the person with more 'first choice' votes wins. My biggest concern with this way of doing it is that I don't know how many total voters we can expect to have involved especially since the four people running wouldn't vote. Jeff (talk|stalk) 03:40, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • Alright Jeff. So, what's your email? --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 09:16, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • I think the ones who should vote should be part of the staff, only admins and bureaucrats if possible.Dodo8 Talk 10:50, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
I want Dan's and Tom's ok on this before we go ahead with it, then I'll give you guys my email. Jeff (talk|stalk) 17:05, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
I like that idea a lot. I think we should handle all future promotions like that. I also think that the vote should be admins and b'crats only. My only concern is that users could find the ideal answers to your questions through this Wiki or Community Central, so we'll have to watch out for that. Tom Talk 18:18, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
I am okay with this idea. Messi1983 (talk) 21:11, December 26, 2013 (UTC)

Expanding This Wiki

Closed as Unsuccessful - VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 12:47, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hey there, since this Wiki is popular among Wikia, I was thinking that we can expand this among Facebook, YouTube, etc. There is already a Facebook page for the GTA Wiki members and the GTAWC (which I have yet to announce its launch :/). For YouTube, we can upload clips, tips, and video walkthroughs for the entire world. I think that we have a chance to traffic new users with this idea. If you think/don't think so, then leave your "so's" on the Vote and Comments below. --Tony1998 (Talker * Blogger * Stalker)-- 00:53, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

  • Also, if the videos are good enough, then we could perhaps put them onto this wiki. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 13:10, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
  • I think a youtube channel would be a great way to entice new users to join the wiki. Sasquatch101 (talk) 06:11, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • We get enough visits and we already put in a lot of work. We don't need extra promotion. Tom Talk 11:13, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • Yes, this is a great idea, I think we should post narrated videos, like Hello guys, I'm (....) from GTA Wiki and this is our channel and we will show you how to.... So people will acknowledge that we are from the GTA Wiki. But, somebody who can edit videos (not my case) should be posting these videos, and plus, after all this huge wave of gamers on Youtube after GTA V's release, I'm not sure that we will gain success. --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 11:26, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • I could fully understand doing this, if we actually profited from the site. Since we don't, it's a hell of a lot of work for no reward. Tom Talk 12:27, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
  • At first, I though it could bring in a lot of people, but seeing this from Tom's point of view, it might just be resultless work. In Packie McReary's words: "Well, that was a whole lot of work, for no ****ing reward!". - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 12:35, November 2, 2013 (UTC)

Wiki News Team

Closed as Successful - VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 12:41, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. I've been looking at multiple wikis and I notice that quite a few of them have working news teams. These news teams usually have 7 members on them; one for each day of the week. I think we should have a wiki news team as they look pretty good. We would need 7 users (preferably staff or very large contributors) that could be the news reporters. Here are 2 examples: Call of Duty Wiki News and the Fallout Wiki News. How do you guys feel about this? VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 13:46, October 28, 2013 (UTC)

  • The idea is good, pretty good indeed. But will we have to create a special news page for it or simply a blog post created by a random user? --Thomas0802 • (talkedits) 14:31, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
  • Good idea, Tom. Do you have any candidates for the spots, already? I could do it, but not right now, as I'm being overthrown with school tests since last week, and this streak will only end next week. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 17:49, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
    • I'll be one and you could be one and there'll be others. Let's say the blog post must be up by 2:00pm and if it isn't then someone else will make it. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 18:20, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
      • Hmm...let me just see something...at this moment, in Portugal, it's 5:05 pm. What about there? - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 17:05, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
        • Exact same time. From sending this it is 5:19pm. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 17:19, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
          • Alright. But I can only log in from 5:30 pm and 6:15 pm, regularly (today I got home early, because one of our teachers got sick), so according to that, we'd have to program a schedule that'd work for me, you, and anyone else who wants to join in. - Mikey Klebbitz (talk) 17:24, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
            • And if it doesn't work for someone we can slightly adjust it. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 17:32, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
  • I agree, but I think that 2 or 3 users with good skills are enough. Dodo8 Talk 08:14, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
  • This is a great idea. I love how the COD Wiki does that, and I think this wiki could benifit from it also. I could do the job in a month or so, if one's open, but not currently because I've been moving and haven't even been able to play GTA V yet. But I'll hopefully get it this weekend so I might be able to go on the wiki in a month when I finish it.  Boomer8 (talk) 04:59, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
  • The ideal time to do this would've been a few months before the release of GTA V. But I guess there will be a lot of Online DLC - and maybe some SP DLC - coming out so it could still work. I'm not sure we will have news every day so maybe we could just have 2 or 3 users who do it. There's more to work out but it could work. Tom Talk 11:04, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
    • Ok. I guess we could have it twice a week with just two users doing it. One could be on wednesday and one could be on perhaps saturday. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 13:08, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Templates for New articles

Closed as Successful - VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 12:41, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

At the moment a couple people use mine, I think. I created a blank template to quickly create a new article with the structure according to the MoS (copy and paste). I'm thinking maybe we should have a blank template for each MoS and then maybe link them to community messages so others can quickly create articles using them. • During the recent run of information I was able to create the base of a vehicle article in about four minutes. I am a bit used to it, yes, but having the blank template available does help streamline the process of creating multiple articles within a certain discipline. Image Policy 'group'

Closed as Successful - VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 12:41, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

This idea was suggested by User:Instulent

So, a few weeks, during a chat conversation, Instulent suggested to create a group of editors who will keep an eye on the files uploading and are able to delete images that: break the policy violations, inappropriate content, duplicates, un-used images etc. <-that was edited by Instulent

This idea is meant to maintain the images uploadings during and after the release of GTA V.

So, what do you think? -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 18:18, August 25, 2013 (UTC)

  • Due to how high the image policy violations are right now when GTA V hasn't even been released, I think this will be a good idea, especially for when GTA V is released. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 18:36, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • Ilan, I thought of this last year and consulted you about this. The GTA Wiki Photo Patrollers. Remember, Patrollers and trusted editors? - --Tony1998 (Talk * Contribs)-- 19:32, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
    • Yeah, it was one of my earliest ideas. But now Istu brought it back. -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 20:02, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • As much I would wish for this to happen, it would be kinda useless. The Patrollers don't have the power to edit or to delete images. So only admins can be part of this group, but I don't know if most of them will have time to do it.Dodo8 Talk
    • Yep, that's the problem, and why I afraid it won't work. -- ILan (XDEditsHome ) 20:02, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
    • Agree with Dodo and Ilan, Admins won't be there all the time --Kingrhem (TalkEdits) 20:06, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • Abandon project then? Instulent (talk) 20:12, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
  • To avoid mass clutter, I think any image that doesn't get used within 24 hours of its upload should be removed. Then we can keep track of what's coming through. JBanton (Talk | Contribs) 10:04, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Featured Images

Hi guys. Basically, I think that we should take down the Featured Images section of the main page. I think this because I believe that it looks messy, boring and frankly, I never notice it. So yeah, I think it should be taken down. VaultBoy Tom (Talk | Edits) 16:55, August 8, 2013 (UTC)
