This article lists the Manual of Style for neighborhood and district articles on the GTA Wiki. We advise to use this as a guide if you wish to create or improve articles that fit this category.
Overview
The manual of style for neighborhood and other small area-related articles is very basic and mostly consists of written content, as listed articles generally develop further into specific details within the area, particularly building and road articles. As with any geographical page, this manual of style advises to use a range of media, including images and videos, presented in an array of formats, including a gallery, infobox and navigation box, however it is understandably quite difficult collecting relevant media for particularly open, wide-spread areas.
Format
Expand each section for a detailed overview, guide and examples of how to format the corresponding section. Section formats marked ★ are mandatory sections.
Lead description ★ | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The lead description is a short paragraph of information at the very beginning of an article, typically accompanied by an infobox to the right. The lead description of any article should be no more than around 200-250 characters (excluding whitespace). For neighborhoods and districts, the lead description should:
|
Infobox ★ | |
---|---|
The infobox displays relevant information at the right-hand side of an article. It usually contains information that is numerical or generic. For neighborhood, the Infobox location template is used: {{Infobox location |name = |image = |caption = |games = |location = |map = |map_caption = |map2 = |map_caption2 = }}
Users can set their own entry if none apply by using

Description ★ |
---|
The description contains the main body of text. It should generally explain anything that other forms of data documentation can't (such as imagery, infoboxes and tables). Try to describe anything as much as you can, but remember to use correct spelling and grammar, punctuation, and most importantly, paragraphs. Paragraphs are important in descriptions as they break up large bodies of text, making it easier to read. Paragraphs should be used to split up text into relevant parts of information. As with most articles, the description should be under a header "Description". When describing a neighborhood or area, keep in mind several key points that should serve as a focus point:
|
Influences |
---|
As neighborhoods and larger locations tend to have a variety of real-world influences, a dedicated section to the influence analysis may be necessary. Assess what specific elements are taken from real-world locations, but try to avoid speculative or far-fetched studies. Include links where possible, preferably to Wikipedia. |
Gallery |
---|
While a gallery isn't necessarily important, is it highly encouraged. The gallery will provide a range of images which show off the structure at its best; different positions, different angles and different features. If possible, any appearances in official Rockstar Games screenshots would best be installed in a separate Official Screenshots section of the gallery. If the building has a detailed interior, a dedicated Interior sub-section to the gallery is also advised. Again, images are best in a 16:9 ratio. |
Events of GTA |
---|
If the neighborhood has a major plot role, a description of how it plays such a major role is best under a dedicated "Events of GTA" game title. The section shouldn't go off-topic and describe the mission plot itself, but rather how the location itself comes into play. Events are considered story-line missions rather than side-missions or activities. |
Prominent Appearances in Missions |
---|
A list of missions that take place in the area. Passing through the area isn't necessarily an appearance, but actual interactions, destinations and mentions in particular are noteworthy appearances. Separate the section into game-title sub-sections for better reading (if the area has several different game appearances) |
Collectibles |
---|
A section listing in-game collectibles may be necessary. Examples of such collectibles include, but are not limited to:
|
Transportation |
---|
If the location is home to specific forms of transport hubs, such as subway stations, taxi stations, bus stations, heliports or even major highways and bridges, describe their location within the area. Including images within this section may provide context. |
Roads and Streets |
---|
List all named roads and streets that are situated or pass through the area. |
Places of Interest |
---|
List any particularly prominent locations, including landmarks, bridges and prominent structures such as fire stations and hospitals. Including several images within this section may provide context. |
- Events of Grand Theft Auto V
- Events of more games (if it appears in other game, episodes count)
- Influence
- On which real-life neighborhood is based in.
- Gang control (if it has)
- (gang X)
- (gang W/if it has another one)
- Transport (GTA IV only, maybe in GTA V)
- Notable residents (if someone lives there)
- Roads and streets
- Places of interest (if it has)
- Businesses (normally everyone has)
- Collectibles (weapons, rampages, stunt jumps, hidden packages, oysters, tags, snapshots, horseshoes, health, armor etc)
- Gallery
- Trivia (if a glitch happens there, if something is important)
- Navigation
Should the neighborhood be included in an existing navbox, then add to a template.
Categorizing
All neighborhoods in GTA V need to be added in the categories: Areas in Los Santos (GTA V) and Locations in GTA V.
What to avoid
- Opinions and biased information.
- Speculation will be met with very low tolerance and will most likely be removed.
- Adding modded images to article pages, as the natural forms are all that is necessary.
- Adding images alongside text in loose form. Images should only be in the lead infobox or one of the organised galleries.
- "The sky is blue" trivia points; we would like to avoid the possibility of patronizing our readers.
