+
The Grenade Launcher is a weapon that launches a grenade. It has appeared in The Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. It was also supposed to appear in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but was cut during development.

The Grenade Launcher is a weapon that appears in The Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony, and Grand Theft Auto V.
+
It is manufactured by Shrewsbury in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Description
+
Design
  +
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
The weapon is based on the HK69A1 grenade launcher. The grenade launcher fires 40 mm grenades greater distances than a person throwing a hand grenade and is about as effective as a pipe bomb. It is best for removing cover, such as a car, however, the grenade does not land in a particular spot, making it less accurate. The grenade detonates on a seven second fuse. Grenades can be fired at and bounced off walls to reach tricky targets. When engaging long range targets, the player must arc the shot (aim higher than the target) in order to compensate for gravity. Although the grenade launcher is ill-suited for aerial targets, the player can carry more rounds than the RPG allows. In the Ballad of Gay Tony, it features an interesting improvement in which the grenade explodes on impact if it hits a vehicle or person. Also, the time it takes for the grenade to explode has been shortened to about four seconds.

  +
A Grenade Launcher was originally going to make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but was taken out without any explanation. Its model (grenlanc.dff) and its textures (grenlanc.txd), still remain on the PS2 disc. These files were removed from all other ports of the game.

  +
This version is based on a , fitted with a front grip and sporting a grey/bluish color.
The grenade launcher is only available from either Terry Thorpe in The Lost and Damned or Armando Torres in The Ballad of Gay Tony. In The Lost and Damned, the weapon spawns at the Lost MC Clubhouse and Brian Jeremy's Safehouse after completing 50 Gang Wars.

{{Quote|This single shot grenade launcher will fire a grenade farther, at a higher velocity and with more accuracy than any thrown by hand. Unreleased

  +
In The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, the weapon takes form of an Heckler & Koch HK69A1. The weapon features an extended stock and a set of iron sights consisting of a front post and two different rear sights: a flip-up dual aperture sight for short-range engagements and a folding ladder-type leaf sight for long distance firing. The weapon has a grey finish.
The Grenade Launcher returns in Grand Theft Auto V. It is now based on a multiple shot, revolver-type launcher, such as the Milkor MGL.

Unlike in The Lost and Damned, this launcher will be able to fire more than one grenade before reloading.

  +

  +
In Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, the Grenade Launcher is based on the Milkor MGL multiple shot, revolver-type launcher, specifically the M-32A1/Mark 14 short-barrel variant. Unlike the MGL, the in-game model features no adjustable OEG sight above the drum, but instead only a picatinny rail. The Grenade Launcher is fitted with a Magpul MOE carbine collapsible stock, appearing to be very similar to the one from the Pump Shotgun. Interestingly, the Grenade Launcher is one of the very few weapons that is modelled correctly after the real-life weapon it is inspired from, as all other weapons in the game are heavily fictionalized hybrids of various weapons. However, it has a capacity of ten rounds rather than the MGL's actual capacity of six rounds.

  +
The Grenade Launcher features a four-sided railed handguard and a railed top, which allows for a variety of attachments, being the only heavy weapon with this feature thus far.

Grenades can be fired at and bounced off walls to reach tricky targets. When engaging long range targets, the player must arc the shot (aim higher than the target) in order to compensate for gravity. The player can carry 20 grenades in contrast to the Rocket Launcher's capacity of eight rockets (although the Rocket Launcher is easier to aim).

  +
  +
In The Ballad of Gay Tony, the Grenade Launcher is slightly improved and the rounds can explode on impact if they hit a vehicle or person. The rounds also have a shortened fuse time of 2.5 seconds, reducing the chances of the rounds going past a target. Because of this, it is possible to shoot down low-flying helicopters with a Grenade Launcher.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online
  +
The Grenade Launcher in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online vastly improves over its previous renditions, as it can fire up to ten rounds before reloading. Like the TBoGT iteration, its rounds will explode instantly upon contact with a person or vehicle, and it has a similar fuse if it does not instantly explode (detonating in one second). The player also no longer has to aim upwards to compensate for gravity, as the grenade launcher will automatically adjust the arc of its shots to hit targets within its reticule and in its effective range, also being ideal for taking down low-flying helicopters. The grenades also do not bounce on solid structures as much as in previous games, and instead will stay on place before their detonation. A grenade is fired at 144 kph / 40 m/s / 89.5 mph.
  +
  +
True to the real-life inspiration and the markings on it, it fires 40mm rounds, with the rounds themselves also labeled as 40mm grenades.

The Ballad of Gay Tony
*It was originally going to make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City but was taken out without any explanation, perhaps because grenades work the same way, and the launcher was just an aimed version. Its model (grenlanc.dff) and its textures (grenlanc.txd), still remain on the PS2 disc. These files were removed from all other ports of the game.

  +
*When gunbutting a cop or player with this weapon, a unique tube-like "bloop" sound effect will play, as compared to the generic whack noise other weapons use.
*Its possible to shoot down low flying choppers with a Grenade Launcher

  +
*In the files, there is an unused flag that lets the round be visible on the weapon, similar to the Rocket Launcher.

  +
Grand Theft Auto Online
  +
*Using the melee animation several times on a car with the Grenade Launcher will make the car explode for no reason; the number of hits required randomly depends on the condition and type of car.

Grand Theft Auto V description on Ammu-Nation and Social Club.

It is manufactured by Shrewsbury in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

A Grenade Launcher was originally going to make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but was taken out without any explanation. Its model (grenlanc.dff) and its textures (grenlanc.txd), still remain on the PS2 disc. These files were removed from all other ports of the game.

This version is based on a DefTech 1315, fitted with a front grip and sporting a grey/bluish color.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

This single shot grenade launcher will fire a grenade farther, at a higher velocity and with more accuracy than any thrown by hand. Must be reloaded after every shot, but is powerfully effective. Learn to bounce grenades off walls and around corners to take out your rivals.

In The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, the weapon takes form of an HK69A1 grenade launcher. The weapon features an extended stock and a set of iron sights consisting of a front post and two different rear sights: a flip-up dual aperture sight for short-range engagements and a folding ladder-type leaf sight for long distance firing. The weapon has a grey finish.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online

The Grenade Launcher features a four-sided railed handguard and a railed top, which allows for a variety of attachments, being the only heavy weapon with this feature thus far.

Performance

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

In The Lost and Damned, the Grenade Launcher fires 40mm grenades at greater distances than a person throwing a hand grenade and is about as effective as a Pipe Bomb. It is best for removing cover, such as a car. However, the grenade does not land in a particular spot, making it less accurate. The grenades detonate on a four second fuse.

True to the real-life inspiration and the markings on it, it fires 40mm rounds, with the rounds themselves also labeled as 40mm grenades.

Weapon pickups map including the Grenade Launcher bridge arch location in Grand Theft Auto V.

Grand Theft Auto Online

 • The Grenade Launcher is unlocked at Rank 60 in Ammu-Nation, for $32,400.
 • It also spawns during survivals at waves 6+.
 • Available in the bunker's shooting range alcove after completing all challenges in Tier 2, as part of the Gunrunning update.

Trivia

The Ballad of Gay Tony

 • When gunbutting a cop or player with this weapon, a unique tube-like "bloop" sound effect will play, as compared to the generic whack noise other weapons use.
 • In the files, there is an unused flag that lets the round be visible on the weapon, similar to the Rocket Launcher.[1]

Grand Theft Auto V

 • When reloading, the player only takes a few seconds to drop a used round and a single round is only loaded into the weapon.
 • There was intended to be a Tear Gas variant for the game, but it was cut for unknown reasons.

Grand Theft Auto Online

 • Using the melee animation several times on a car with the Grenade Launcher will make the car explode for no reason; the number of hits required randomly depends on the condition and type of car.
 • There is a glitch in the game that the player can shoot the Grenade Launcher faster (at about 150 rounds per minute) while blind firing behind cover. This can be done by repeatedly using the left mouse button without holding it down.
 • A vehicle-mounted variation can be seen in the Dune FAV (Gunrunning update).

Bugs/Glitches

Grand Theft Auto Online

 • The player will lose 10 grenades upon dying.
