A ha! Yet again, you have fallen for my cunning plans, Mr Chambers.
— Hans Nemesis to the GTA London Protagonist, taking them as agent Endeavour Chambers.

Hans Nemesis is the pseudonym of an unnamed character in the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as the secondary antagonist in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and a minor unseen antagonist in Grand Theft Auto: London 1961.

History[]

Background[]

Hans Nemesis is the codeword for the leader of a Austrian terrorist cell which was operating in London, United Kingdom, during the 1960s. Nothing much is revealed about Nemesis, neither what his real name is or what his motivations are for wanting to blow up Britain. He is described as "genocidal" and "megalomaniacal", but beyond this there are no other clues to his politics.

Events of Grand Theft Auto: London 1961[]

In 1961, after the GTA London Protagonist steals agent Endeavour Chambers' Jug Swinger, the government takes the protagonist as Chambers and they are tasked with foiling Hans Nemesis' plan to replace regular potatoes with explosive ones. Afterwards, they destroy Nemesis' safehouse with the help of Grandpa, and Nemesis subsequently flees the country.

Events of Grand Theft Auto: London 1969[]

In 1969, Hans returns to London and steals a mobile nuclear missile launcher from the British government while being followed by British secret agent Endeavour Chambers. Nemesis' plans, however, are foiled by the protagonist who stops the missile from launching under orders of Chamber's superiors, believing him to be the agent after finding the two ICBM codes in two cars travelling around London.

After trying to blow up nuclear missiles, Hans prepared to poison London's tea supply. The protagonist is then told to take the stolen sugar from Hans and exterminate some of his men. After the defeat of his plan, Hans confronts the protagonist in a wheelchair, then takes his own life.

Trivia[]

  • Nemesis shares many traits with a stereotypical villain from the James Bond film series. His dialogue indicates that he has had many cat-and-mouse chases with secret agent Endeavour Chambers, and enough close calls in the past to say that he knows him well. He also seems to enjoy playing life-or-death "games" with the secret agent, and the secret agent has fallen for these plans many times, with Nemesis believing himself more intelligent. Also, his death is similar to James Bond's nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
