Remote controlled sniper system.
— Unused Ammu-Nation description.

The Remote Sniper is a high-powered sniper rifle that appears in Grand Theft Auto V.

Design[]

Grand Theft Auto V[]

The Remote Sniper is a modified Heavy Sniper placed on a gun mount, which mainly consists of three support legs and motors to allow their movement, as well as an antenna. The weapon relies on advanced optics fitted in the gun mount and, as stated by its name, it is remotely-controlled from a separated device.

Performance[]

Grand Theft Auto V[]

The Remote Sniper features a high-tech scope that can zoom a lot further than any Sniper Rifle or even its counterpart, and also displays wind direction and a secondary reticle that predicts where the bullet must be fired to hit the target. This allows for accurate shots, as it does not sway in the wind and has a much faster rate of fire than the Heavy Sniper if the player presses the trigger repeatedly.

The Remote Sniper does much less damage compared to the Heavy Sniper's (101 vs 216), though the Sniper Rifle does the same damage as the former, which hints to be less intended to be powerful, but extremely accurate. The weapon also has one of the highest effective range of all weapons, surpassing that of most sniper rifles in the game (up to 5,000 meters/16404 feet, according to the files).

Prominent Appearances in Missions[]

Grand Theft Auto V[]

  • The weapon is only used during the mission "Caida Libre", where the player has to shoot down a Shamal with the Remote Sniper; it is subsequently destroyed along with the van it was transported in.

Locations[]

Grand Theft Auto V[]

  • The player cannot obtain the gun after the plane has been shot down in "Caida Libre", because the doors close and the option to control the gun is no longer available. Also, this weapon cannot be obtained in free-roam without modifications.

Trivia[]

  • The Remote Sniper is quite similar to the weapon that Bruce Willis uses in the movie The Jackal.[2]
  • An unused Ammu-Nation description in the files suggests that the weapon would be available for purchase at one point, but it was changed to be mission-exclusive.
  • Despite being a modified Heavy Sniper, it is coded to hold 10 rounds instead of 6, although it is actually true for a real Barrett M82.
    • Also, it shares the same firing sound as the Sniper Rifle.
  • In addition to the prop model seen during the mission, an unfolded variant exists, which has the supports unfolded and the antenna extended.
