RAGE, short for Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, is a game engine created by video game developer and publisher Rockstar Games. Rockstar uses it to power their video games on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Description
It has been used to create the games Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis through Red Dead Redemption 2.
Prior to RAGE, Rockstar mostly used Criterion Games RenderWare engine to develop various game titles, including the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows installments of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
RAGE was retooled and extended to add ambient occlusion, improved lighting and particle systems in Grand Theft Auto V, and DirectX 11 support, along with the aforementioned enhancements in the Microsoft Windows version of Max Payne 3. RAGE would later be further refined with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, supporting DirectX 12, physically based rendering, volumetric clouds and fog values, pre-calculated global illumination as well as a Vulkan renderer in the Windows version.
