CJ: "Seeing my homie. What's up with you?"

Ryder is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by Grove Street Families member Lance "Ryder" Wilson from his home.

Mission

CJ drops by Ryder's home, with Ryder telling CJ that The Well Stacked Pizza Co. store in Idlewood keeps painting over a Grove Street Families tag on the building, and he wants to teach the owner a lesson. Whilst driving to the store, CJ asks about Old Reece, a barber, and despite warnings from Ryder that he "popped his membrane years ago", goes to Reece's Hair & Facial Studio to get a haircut. Once stepping outside the barber's shop, Ryder will comment on CJ's choice of cut. As a general rule, the more CJ pays for a cut, the higher the Respect and Sex Appeal stat will rise.

Afterwards, CJ goes to the pizza parlor to order some food, whilst Ryder finishes smoking. After CJ has finished eating, Ryder then attempts to rob the restaurant, however, the store manager scares them off with a shotgun. CJ and Ryder quickly leave the restaurant and drive back to Ryder's home. However, you can loot the shotgun (which will have very little ammo unfortunately) from the manager by simply running over him with the car, killing him, then walking over the shotgun. You will not fail the mission (or even change it's dialogue) by doing this.

Once clear of the pizza restaurant, CJ can take his time getting back to Ryder's house, where he will be rewarded with more respect. Ryder suggests that CJ heads over to Sweet's house, as he is equally upset about the graffiti being covered up.

Mission objectives

In order to complete the mission the player must:

Get in Ryder's car
Go with Ryder to the barbers
Enter the barber shop
Walk into the marker to get a haircut
Enter the Pizza shop and buy some food
Walk into the marker to buy a pizza
Get in Ryder's car
Drive Ryder home

Reward

The reward for completing the mission is an increase of three Respect points.

Also the Sweet mission strand is opened starting with the first mission, Tagging Up Turf. A phone call from Sweet will also be available, describing changes in the city's gangs.

Transcript

CJ enters Ryder's House.

Ryder:

Hey man, what you want?

CJ:

Seeing my homie. What's up with you?

Ryder:

Yeah, homie, yeah, yeah. It's good to see you back.

CJ:

No homie love? No hug?

Ryder:

Oh, for sure, for sure my ni**a, my bad. What's crackin' with you?

CJ:

Hey, man, what you strapped for?

Ryder:

Man, some pizza place keeps painting over our hit up, man! That shit is beautiful. Teach the owner a lesson. He's fucking with Grove Street. You down?

CJ:

I'm always down.

Ryder:

Ahhhh, yeah... Let's go, bitch.

CJ and Ryder exit Ryder's house.

Ryder:

Hey, show me how they drive on the East Coast, homie!

CJ and Ryder get into Ryder's Picador and drives to Reece's Hair & Facial Studio.

CJ:

Hey, Old Reece still running the barber shop?

Ryder:

Like a raggedy-assed motherfucker! He popped his membrane years ago! No way I'd let that old fool near my head!

CJ:

Yeah, I think I'll get cut up.

Ryder:

Whatever. You got five minutes. I'll be cutting you like a DJ. So when you running off again?

CJ:

I'm not, I'm thinkin' of staying.

Ryder:

Why?

CJ:

My family, the homies is here.

Ryder:

We were always here, fool!

CJ:

Yeah, but, now I'm back and I know what I've been missing.

Ryder:

Don't expect me to kiss your ass or nothing. You're still a buster to me.

CJ:

Yeah, OK, thanks homie.

Ryder:

Yeah, don't mention it.

(If CJ gets out of the Picador.

Ryder:

*Hop in, CJ.
*Jump in.
*Get in fool!
*All aboard, CJ.
*Guess you drivin' huh?
*C'mon CJ, earn your keep!)

CJ enters the barber shop and chooses a haircut.

Reece:

*Tell Big Smoke he needs a cut.
*Hope you stick around longer.
*Nice to have you back, son.
*Say hi to your brother for me.

CJ leaves the barber shop.

Ryder:

(if CJ gets a cheap haircut; under $200) Shit, I told you he was crazy! Man, you jacked up!

Ryder:

(if CJ gets an expensive haircut; $200+) You know something? I take it back, Old Reece still got it cracking.

Ryder:

Man, what's this? Shit looks ridiculous. No respect for the 'hood, all clean and shit. You're looking too skinny, CJ. Go and get us something to eat. I'm gonna finish this. Then I'm gonna take care of business.

CJ enters The Well Stacked Pizza Co. and orders some food. Ryder shortly after enters wielding a Pistol.

Ryder:

Give up the money! This a raid!

Well Stacked Pizza Clerk:

Ryder! Not this again!

Ryder:

It ain't me, fool!

Well Stacked Pizza Clerk:

No one else is that small! I feel sorry for your dad!

CJ:

Shit, you crazy! Let's get out up outta here!

Ryder:

Same old CJ! Busta! Straight busta!

The Well Stacked Pizza Clerk pulls a shotgun from behind the counter and fires a warning shot, sending CJ and Ryder running.

Ryder:

Oh, shit! RUN!

CJ and Ryder get into Ryder's Picador and start to escape as the Well Stacked Pizza Clerk runs out of the store, Shotgun in hand.

Well Stacked Pizza Clerk:

This pizza parlor is no push-over!

Ryder:

What you waiting for, fool? Take us back to the Grove, motherfucker!

CJ and Ryder drive back to Ryder's house in Grove Street.

Ryder:

Better drop by and see Sweet. He's been yapping on about that graffiti, too. Later, homie.

Trivia

After you come out of the barbers and talk to Ryder, if you come out with an expensive haircut, he takes back what he said about Reece, but if you come out with a cheaper hairstyle he will continue to insult Reece. (This appears to be false in the Xbox version of the game, as coming out with a Flat Top ($500) Ryder will continue insulting Reece).
If a player visit Old Reece without money, he/she gets awarded $52 automatically, and if you try to buy food in Well-Stacked Pizza without money, you'll get $2, allowing you to buy the cheapest meal.
The song heard inside Ryder's home is Alwayz Into Somethin' by NWA, a song also heard on Radio Los Santos.
The clerk in the pizza shop says to Ryder, "I feel sorry for your dad," similar to what a clerk says to a character in the beginning of the movie, "Menace II Society."
In the brief cutscene at Ryder's House, Ryder armed himself with a Glock 17, but when he's about to rob the Pizza Parlor, he pulls out a Colt M1911A1.
In a beta screenshot, when Ryder is waiting for you to come out of Old Reece's, he is leaning against a Sadler with barrels in the back instead of his usual Picador.
It doesn't matter where you park Ryder's Picador it will always be teleported to the same spot.
It is possible to unlock restaurants before this mission by dating a girlfriend. It will fail due to a 4 star wanted level. However, after the disastrous date, restaurants are unlocked.
Before you stop at the barber, Ryder's car is damage-proof, but if hit too much, it will release smoke at the engine, but the car does not sustain any body damage.
When you come out of Reece's shop, Ryder's car is locked.
Ryder never takes off his sunglasses but this is the only time he takes off his hat.
The cutscene where Ryder comment's on CJ's hair is normally not skippable. However, if you fail the mission and play it again, it becomes skippable.
With some care and skill, the shotgun toting employee can be killed. Doing this gives you a decent weapon that can make some earlier missions much easier.
