For the special stunt jumps usually required to gain 100% completion of a game, see Unique Stunt Jumps.

Vice City Stunt

A stunt performed in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

In every Grand Theft Auto game, various ramps are scattered around the map to allow the player to perform stunt jumps using a variety of vehicles. Players who perform such acts are usually rewarded with an Insane Stunt Bonus, which is equal to an amount of cash, depending on how 'insane' the stunt is.

Description[]

The factors that determine how successful an insane stunt is are:

Distance - the straight line distance travelled from launch to landing
Height - the altitude gained from a jump from the top of the launch point
Flips - the number of complete flips (front-to-back, back-to-front rotation, or aileron roll) performed
Rotation - degrees of lateral (spin) rotation that occurred whilst airborne

Exceeding multiple targets of the measures above during a single jump will reward the player with a multiplier bonus, up to triple (quadruple in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories). Those targets to exceed vary by game.

There are multiplier 'ranks' of Insane Stunt bonuses, the higher ranks are increasingly difficult to achieve.

  • Insane Stunt bonus, which is achieved by completing a jump which, by definition, required one of the targets to be met.
  • Double Insane Stunt bonus, which requires two target measures to be exceeded.
  • Triple Insane Stunt bonus, which requires at least three target measures to be exceeded.
  • Quadruple Insane Stunt bonus, exclusive to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, requiring all four measure targets to be met.

A Perfect Insane Stunt is achieved by maintaining the vehicle's balance upon landing and not damaging it, resulting in double rewards. Perfect Insane Stunts are also multipliable and feature in all games, apart from the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and all versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

A Flaming Insane Stunt is exclusive to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and is awarded by performing an insane stunt that results in the vehicle catching fire at some point prior to landing, usually on take-off.

Grand Theft Auto V changed the stunting measures and players are no longer rewarded for performing flips or rotations, a stunt is either ruled as 'Completed' or 'Failed' based on entry and landing point. A summary of Distance and Height achieved is provided and there are no additional rewards or ranks given to stunts. Player statistics do keep track of the farthest vehicle jump, highest vehicle jump, most flips in one vehicle jump and most spins in one vehicle jump per character however.

Performing Stunts[]

3D Universe[]

Grand Theft Auto III[]

In Grand Theft Auto III, triggering an Insane Stunt reward requires driver to either jump a distance of 106ft or greater, perform at least 1 flip, or a rotation of 360° or greater. Achieving two of these thresholds rewards the driver with a Double Insane Stunt which doubles the cash reward for the jump. Surpassing all three Insane Stunt goals rewards the driver with a Triple Insane Stunt earning the driver three times that of a standard Insane Stunt.

When calculating the reward for a jump, four factors determine the money payout for an Insane Stunt; Distance, Height, Flips, Rotation. Distance and Height are measured in feet that increment by 3.333 feet, where the invisible decimal becomes important when calculating the reward for the jump. The distance traveled in the jump gets multiplied by 0.6, the height obtained gets multiplied by 4.5, each flip gives $20, and each degree spun is multiplied by 0.333. Next, if the Insane Stunt performed is a Double or Triple the formula multiplies by 2 or 3 respectively. Then, if the jump and landing is considered perfect, the Insane Stunt will be considered a "Perfect Insane Stunt" which doubles the reward again. Lastly, any decimal on the cash reward gets removed and the driver is rewarded the cash bonus for the Insane Stunt.

An Insane Stunt cannot be triggered if the flying car cheat has been activated.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]

In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, triggering an Insane Stunt reward requires driver to either jump a distance of 136ft or greater, perform at least 2 flips, or a rotation of 360° or greater. Achieving two of these thresholds rewards the driver with a Double Insane Stunt which doubles the cash reward for the jump. Surpassing all three Insane Stunt goals rewards the driver with a Triple Insane Stunt earning the driver three times that of a standard Insane Stunt.

Distance and Height are measured in feet that increment by 3.333 feet, where the invisible decimal becomes important when calculating the reward for the jump. The distance traveled in the jump gets multiplied by 0.12, the height obtained gets multiplied by 0.9, each flip gives $12, and each degree spun is multiplied by 0.0667. Next, if the Insane Stunt performed is a Double or Triple the formula multiplies by 2 or 3 respectively. Lastly, any decimal on the cash reward gets removed and the driver is rewarded the cash bonus for the Insane Stunt.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]

In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, triggering an Insane Stunt reward requires driver to either jump a distance of 136ft or greater, perform at least 2 flips, or a rotation of 360° or greater. Achieving two of these thresholds rewards the driver with a Double Insane Stunt which doubles the cash reward for the jump.
