File:Libertonian Museum (GTA4) (exterior, Columbus Avenue side).jpg

The frontal facade of the Libertonian Museum.

The Libertonian is a museum in Grand Theft Auto IV based on the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum is located on the eastern edge of Middle Park (similar to the Met's location in Central Park), fronting Columbus Avenue and Middle Park East. It is currently under renovation, and is closed to the general public. It features pieces of paintings and pottery (some of which are yet to be unpacked or are covered), as well as skeletons of three dinosaurs in the main lobby.

At any time, the player may gain access into the building through a side door on the southern side of the museum, through a path that leads to the museum floor. The lobby and the mezzanine, and loading backrooms are the only areas inside the museum that are accessible, but the player may also reach the rooftop of the museum on foot via a series of scaffolding outside the museum, on the west side of the building. As the museum is closed to the public, the front doors are locked and guarded by police with automatic guns.

Mission appearances

Main articles: Museum Piece and Collector's Item

The location is used in "Museum Piece" and "Collector's Item", where Niko Bellic and Johnny Klebitz meet Isaac Roth and his associates in a diamond deal on the second floor. However, an emerging hitman opens fire on the diamond deal. Klebitz escapes the museum and betrays Niko, leaving Niko to deal with all of the hitman's goons.

The Ballad of Gay Tony

If you go to the scaffolding on the south west side of the museum, you can climb up to the place were Luis ambushed the deal between Niko, Johnny, and the Jewish Mob, giving you a brief look at what a level for the DLC will be look like through Luis's eyes. You can also climb up to the roof where Luis goes as Niko and Johnny escape as seen in the Lost And Damned Credits. See external link for this.
