Ken Rosenberg: “There's this retired Colonel, Colonel Juan Garcia Cortez. He's the one that helped me set up this deal well away from Vice City's established thugs. Ok? Now, listen. He's holding his party out in the bay on his expensive yacht and all of Vice City's big players are gonna be there. OK? I have an invite, of course I have an invite, but there's no way that I'm going out there, sticking my head out the door - no way! Not gonna happen.”
Tommy Vercetti: “I told you, shut up! I'll go myself...”
Ken Rosenberg and Tommy Vercetti trying to find some leads about the ambushed deal.

The Party is the first mission in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City given to the protagonist Tommy Vercetti by lawyer Ken Rosenberg from his office in Washington Beach, Vice City.

Mission[]

Tommy Vercetti goes to Ken Rosenberg's office trying to find some leads, following the orders of Sonny Forelli. Ken Rosenberg tells Tommy that Colonel Cortez is having a party on his yacht and that it would be best to start with Cortez, who set up the deal. Ken gives Tommy his invitation but tells Tommy to stop at Rafael's and get a new outfit. Tommy leaves the office and drives to Rafael's where he gets a new suit. Tommy then drives to the yacht at the marina and meets Cortez, who says they can talk about the ambushed drug deal later. He introduces Tommy to his daughter Mercedes Cortez, who then points out each of the party guests. However, when Ricardo Diaz arrives, she leaves with Tommy, having him drive her to The Pole Position Club.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Go get some new threads from Rafael's clothes shop
  • Get to the Colonel's boat
  • Take the Colonel's daughter to the Pole Position Club

Reward[]

The reward for completing the mission is $100 and the mission Back Alley Brawl is unlocked. The Soiree Outfit can be obtained from Rafael's, while the Street Outfit can be obtained from Safehouses.

Transcript[]

Transcript
Ken Rosenberg's office. Tommy Vercetti and Ken discuss how to sort out the botched drug deal.
Ken: Go get some sleep, he says. I have been sitting in this chair all night with the lights off drinking coffee. This is a disaster. We are so screwed, man! These gorillas, listen to me, are gonna come down here and rip my head off. It's ridiculous! I did NOT go to law school for this! OK, now what the hell you gonna do?
Tommy: Shut up, sit down and relax. I'll tell you what we gonna do. You're gonna find out who took our cocaine - and then, I'm gonna kill them.
Ken: That's a good idea, that's a GREAT idea. Let me think, let me think, let me think. - OH! There's this retired colonel, Colonel Juan Garcia Cortez. He's the one that helped me set up this deal well away from Vice City's established thugs. OK? Now, listen. He's holding his party out in the bay on his expensive yacht and all of Vice City's big players are gonna be there. OK? I have an invite, of course I have an invite, but there's no way that I am going out there sticking my head out the door - No way, not gonna happen.
Ken gives Tommy the invitation card
Tommy: I told you, shut up! I'll go myself...
Ken: HO - whoa whoa! Hey, I like 1978 too, but y'know this isn't gonna be a beer and strippers do. I mean, no offence but I think you might turn heads on the runway for the wrong reasons.
Tommy: What's wrong with the way I'm dressed?
Ken: OK, look, here. Stop by Rafael's, tell him I sent ya. He'll make you look respectable.
Ken gives Tommy a card. Tommy leaves the office.
Tommy: Who does that guy think he is? Now I gotta dress like a chump as well as hang out with them? I like this shirt..
Tommy arrives at Rafael's and changes into a new suit. After exiting the shop he sees a man parking a Freeway bike on the other side of the road.
Tommy: Hmm... nice bike!
NOTE: The following line of dialogue will play only if Tommy steals the bike and does not kill it's owner before doing so.
Biker: No! My bike!
Cortez's yacht. Tommy arrives at Colonel Cortez's yacht and is introduced to the colonel.
Cortez: Buenas noches. I understand you are here on the behalf of Mr. Rosenberg. I hope any recent problem has not affected his health, or uh, mental well being. Mr. ... uh?
Tommy: Vercetti. He's just got a touch of ...agoraphobia.
Cortez: Excellent, excellent. And you?
Tommy: I just want my merchandise.
Cortez: Ah. It's unfortunate circumstances for all involved. Of course I have initiated my own lines of inquiry, but such a delicate matter will take time. Perhaps we will talk later. Meanwhile let me introduce you to my daughter, Mercedes!
Cortez calls to Mercedes and she walks over to them.
Cortez: Caramia, can you after our guest while I attend my necessary obligations?
Mercedes: Of course daddy.
Tommy: Mercedes!?
Mercedes: You try living with it. Anyway, let me point out some of our more distinguished guests...
Mercedes points at Alex Shrub and Candy Suxxx who are standing with Kent Paul.
Mercedes: That's our congressman Alex Shrub with rising silicone star, Candy Suxxx...
Alex(to Paul): And Have you met my lovely wife Laura? No? Well unfortunately she is in Alabama. This is Candy.
Mercedes (pointing towards BJ Smith): And over there we have Vice Mambas star tight end, BJ - always a charmer
BJ is talking to Avery Carrington who is standing with his protégé, Donald Love.
BJ: I blocked down on him and then I put him in a wheelchair!
Avery: That is good. Well now I am looking at some prime real estate property.
Mercedes points at Jezz Torrent who is lying on a sun lounger next to two women.
Mercedes: And that poolside amphibian is Jezz Torrent, lead singer with Love Fist.
Jezz (to the women): Can I tell yous - Do you know how they play ping-pong in Thailand? Let me tell yous, it does not involve a paddle, if you know what I mean!
Mercedes points out her father's men.
Mercedes: Impotent. And the chatty trio. That sleeping sweat gland is papa's right hand gimp, Gonzalez, and the other two are Pastor Richards and psuedo intellectual film directer Steve Scott
Steve Scott (to Richards and Gonzalez): ...Passion with the nympho invaders, when the giant sharks come in and just bites their dicks off! Ha now, you never saw anything like that before, have you?
Ricardo Diaz arrives at the party.
Diaz: Colonel! Your parties as ever are a truimph, hahahaha. I can only apologize for my late arrival.
Cortez: Ah, da nada amigo. How do we find you?
Diaz: Our business is very trying - barbarians at the gate. A time for rewarding one's friends and liquidating one's enemies amigo.
Tommy: Who's the loud mouth?
Mercedes: Ricardo Diaz. He's Mr.Coke
Diaz: Mercedes!
Mercedes: Oh, I was just taking my friend back into town. Another time Ricardo!
Juan Cortez
(Voice only):
(not in subtitles) Ricardo, let's go under the board. I am sure you and I will need some proper drinks and muchachas, huh? Come on.
Mercedes(to Tommy): Let's get out of here. Actually, take me to the Pole Position Club.
Tommy and Mercedes leave the party and head to the Pole Position Club.
NOTE: The following 2 lines of dialogue will play only if Tommy and Mercedes are in a vehicle.
Mercedes: Will you be working for my father?
Tommy: Maybe.
NOTE: The following 2 lines of dialogue will play only if Tommy and Mercedes are in a car.
Mercedes: Do you mind me resting my hand in your lap?
Tommy: Maybe...
NOTE: The following line of dialogue will play only if Tommy and Mercedes are in a vehicle.
Mercedes: It's so difficult to have a rich and powerful father. Vamos.
Tommy arrives at the Pole Position Club. Mercedes heads inside.
Mercedes: See you around, handsome!
Tommy: I am sure you will.
