The Black Lotus Triad is a small Triad faction operating in Los Santos in mid 2013. Led by Jian Cheng, the younger brother of murdered Triad boss Wei Cheng, the Black Lotus Triad is based in Little Seoul.
Overview
The Black Lotus Triad formed from the remnants of the defunct Los Santos Triad which collapsed after the murder of Wei Cheng and his most senior advisers. After the gang-war style shootout that claimed the lives of most of the Triad the survivors retreated to Little Seoul where they gathered under the leadership of Wei's brother Jian.
This small enclave of Chinese career criminals became the Black Lotus Triad complete with its own code of honour. Forging an alliance with the Khangpae, who quickly become a subordinate group, the Triad rose to dominate Little Seoul and even took control of parts of neighbouring La Puerta.
In defence of their "code of honour" members of the Black Lotus Triad are ruthless aggressive and reactionary to any perceived show of disrespect. Still in its early days the Triad faction has employed extreme acts of violence and savagery in defence of its interests.
Business
The Black Lotus Triad owns several businesses in Little Seoul which it operates through its members and associates. These businesses serve as a source of income for the Triad and allow it to conceal its criminal enterprises behind the smokescreen of law abiding business.
Jian, a talented businessman, established these businesses to funnel money into the Triad but ensured that all legal documents were signed by different "owners" to avoid creating a paper trail leading back to him.
In mid-2013 the Triad purchased the Wan Ka Internet Cafe and BSC Machine Maintenance which it placed under the "ownership" of specially chosen Triad members. As it's influence grew the Black Lotus Triad established the Chinese themed Jade Dragon nightclub and the Golden Lion Noodle House adding a distinctly Chinese touch to the otherwise Korean Little Seoul. Each business, owned by an individual member of the Triad, pays a cut of its profits back to the Triad which in turn provides security and protection for the businesses.
Affiliations
The Black Lotus Triad, through Jian Cheng, is on good terms with the Mountain Cloud Triad of San Fierro. The two Triad factions have an ongoing business partnership in the Los Santos underground gambling and cage fighting scene. The Black Lotus Triad organizes and runs the gambling and cage fighting matches while the Mountain Cloud Triad provides security and recruits new "talent".
The Black Lotus Triad also has a dominant, in that affiliated groups serve a subordinate role, affiliation with the Little Seoul based Khangpae and the Xian Family of Dillimore. The Khangpae, a loose affiliation of South Korean gang members, serves as hired muscle and errand runners for the Triad. Seeking Triad membership the Xian Family, a small-time Chinese crime family from the nearby city of Dillimore, functions as a support group for the Triad and acts as hired muscle when required. The Xian Family and the Khangpae pay a street-tax to the Black Lotus Triad for the "privilege of being affiliated with it".
