Contender

Regarding your revision, could you provide a reference of a 2004-2008 Ford F-150 Raptor in existance?

The only thing I can dig up from that name is the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor [1] [2], which is obviously unlikely to be the basis for this truck. - ZS 17:45, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

F150 SVT Raptor explanation

The pictures for the raptor were published in early 2008 around the time gta 4 was about to be released so I think the contender is based on the raptor. Plus they both have V8 engines and the are both built by ford (execept the contender which is built by vapid, which is based on ford). So sorry if you don't believe me but it's the best I can do also I have been interested in cars since I was a baby and I found out about the Raptor in march 2008 in top gear magazine. The raptor was just a suggestion.

GTA IV's original release date was to be October 2007 before it was pull back to April 2008. I hardly believe that development gap was spent designing vehicles, let alone drawing inspiration from a vehicle that only surfaced during the later half of that time. A used car ad on TV in the game suggests the truck's design may have already been settled long before the Raptor surfaced. Rockstar North did, after all, spend more than 4 years developing GTA IV. - ZS 16:20, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe it was a late edition, one of the final cars to be put in the game. It could be possible when they were deciding what vehicles to put in the game they put the name on the don't know pile and came back to it when the game's release date was put back, Maybe that's why the contender is a good car

The delay was largely attributed to technical problems related to getting the game to run on consoles, so they were more likely to have concentrated on practical fixes and minor refinements instead of adding whole game contents. And the appearance of the truck on the game's TV is still solid evidence the truck has been around for some time. They have to had recorded these programs and ads during development and not during the last minute. - ZS 17:39, September 17, 2009 (UTC)
Here's an example for comparison: The Bullet in GTA San Andreas. The car is based on a then very brand new sports car, the Ford GT. The car was unveiled in the 2002 Detroit Auto Show and entered production in 2003, and all the time Rockstar North has only just completed GTA Vice City and has started work on GTA San Andreas, designing and coding stuff for the game (the development cycle at the time is clearly shorter; they completed GTA Vice City in 2002, so R* may had spent around two years developing GTA San Andreas). Because they had ample time, they could afford to include the car in the game, even though it was inaccurate because the car wasn't meant to exist in 1992 (GTA San Andreas' timeline).

In comparison, the F-150 SVT Raptor's design was only unveiled March 2008, when GTA IV was one month away from going gold. With bugs, technical problems, and playtests to deal with, coupled with limited manpower, you have to prioritize. Game development is not simply as easy as pie these days. - ZS 18:04, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

The Bullet on GTA san andreas

The bullet is actually based on The OLD GT40 from the 60's that kicked ferrari's arse in Track races

The bullet is based on the ford GT from 2002 because it doesn't look like to GT40 plus the GT40 would not go that fast(maybe it would not that good on top speed of cars)--Grandtheftautodude 17:25, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

RE: Hello Again

Hey there, sorry I took so long to reply - I haven't been very active recently (and that's not going to change any time soon). I can see that the situation you mentioned on my talk page has been resolved, but I just thought I'd let you know that it wasn't actually me who welcomed you when you joined this website. It's basically just an automated message which is automatically "signed" by the member of staff who is active/editing at the time - personally I think it's a stupid idea, as it obviously gives the false impression that the staff member actually wrote the message. Secondly, I'm not sure how you got the idea that I have a problem on the Kart article - I'm guessing that you misinterpreted the message above the one you posted on my talk page (although, it was singed by the user who actually posted it anyway). Lastly, please remember to sign your talk page comments with four tildes ~~~~. Also, just to let you know, if you have any problems in future that require staff help, I suggest you look for a member of staff who is actually active - I hadn't been active for almost a month when you left your message on my talk page. It's not much of a problem, but obviously, if you ask an active member of staff for help, you're more likely to get it. - Hardrock182 18:25, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I misinterprited the previous message on your talk page about the kart, I was pretty knackered that day and I sometimes misread things when I'm Knackered. also I thought you were welcoming me onto the site I bet lots of people have made the same mistake Nice talking to you again. andy nicholson
