It is primarily based on Ford Motor Company, although some of its models resemble some of those made by Chevrolet, Dodge, Land Rover, and even the International Harvester/Navistar International. In parody of Ford's famous blue oval badge, Vapid's logo is a red oval. The word 'vapid' means 'dull' but also sounds similar to 'rapid,' a possible motivation for the use of the name. Vapid is one of the biggest car manufacturers in Grand Theft Auto IV, along with Declasse.
Vapid will also be a car manufacturer in Grand Theft Auto V, according to the first trailer of the game: near the ending of the trailer, a police car is seen chasing an unnamed Convertible, and for a brief moment it's possible to see the name Vapid printed on the back of the police car and the Infernus screenshot shows a Vapid sign in the right superior corner of the screenshot. There is also a Ford Mustang inspired muscle car as well as the Vapid Double Cab Truck, both meant to appear in the game. Also, on Trevor's Trailer, whilst he is stealing the plane, a Vapid aircraft hangar can be seen on the right, meaning Vapid may also produce aircraft, or it could just be a vehicle factory and Trevor just happens to be taking off in his aircraft right next to it.
