Vemus Ordelia is a fictional radio DJ in Grand Theft Auto 2.
Description
Venus Ordelia is the DJ for the Heavenly Radio radio station in Anywhere City. She constantly makes thinly veiled attempts to make listeners convert. She mentions conversion very often and even offers listeners with ways to get in touch and begin conversion. Her speech about conversion could be interpreted as hypnotic, but the idea of converting to the ways of Krishna is still very much laughed at by the people of Anywhere City, as heard in one of Jill Tasker's news reports.
She uses a fair amount of cliché phrases and sounds, such as "far out", "wow", humming, and chanting that would suggest her character is supposed to be a caricature of hippie culture with a little bit of religious chanting sprinkled in between the lines. Despite her affiliation with the Hare Krishna, her radio show plays music that would, more often than not, be interpreted as Catholic or Christian. She, at some point in her show, points out the misconceptions people often have about the Krishna, stating that while some may think they "live a dream life of angels", they're actually a hard-working group of people trying to rid the world of pollution and wrongness. She also states that "the automobile traffic is terrible", likely to encourage the listeners to take the Krishna Bus. While this might seem like bias relating to her Krishna affiliation, it is actually something that other radio DJs, such as Johnny Riccaro and Sammy Starock, have touched on in their own respective radio shows.
Venus Ordelia was voiced by Lynne Lambert.
