The placeholder mix for the station was found in the early build of GTA V on a dev PlayStation 3[2]. Judging by the tracklist, it's possible to track down the origin of the placeholder mix. The mix is a 30-minute excerpt of Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show on BBC Radio 6 Music that aired on 29 September 2012[3][4][5]. Interestingly, the guest on the aforementioned show was Flying Lotus. It's possible that the unused label found in "TrackID.gxt2"[6] was used for this placeholder mix.

Trivia

  • Following WorldWide FM's success, a new and ongoing real-life radio station founded by Peterson himself, had officially started airing in September 2016 under the same title: "WorldWide FM". Since its initial launch, the station has gone out into the real world broadcasting all across Europe, Asia, and the US.
  • This is one of the eight radio stations in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online which doesn't feature commercials or news breaks, the others being FlyLo FM, Soulwax FM, East Los FM, The Lab, Los Santos Underground Radio, iFruit Radio and Music Locker Radio.
  • "Street Life" by the Crusaders is incorrectly credited solely to Randy Crawford on the radio wheel, even though she was uncredited on the single release of the song. Gilles Peterson, however, does credit both acts.
  • The station is listed as a "jazz" station in the game's files as it was originally meant to be a jazz-funk station during development before it became what it is now. Songs by Tom Browne, Donald Byrd, and Candido were meant for the jazz station.
  • In the game files of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, there are some leftover quotes from Liberty Rock Radio.
  • On 29 November 2020, almost a month before the release of The Cayo Perico Heist, the Gilles Peterson Worldwide show on German station Radio FM4 aired a tracklist that featured parts of the Cayo Perico update mix.[7] Tracks aired in the same order as in-game, but in three parts (from "The Message (GP and 2Bo4 Remix)" to "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This"; from "Jazz Carnival" to "Labyrinth"; from "Baba Ayoola" to "Aspects").
  • Trickski's Beginning samples a song by The Crusaders' whose song "Street Life" can be heard as well on this station.
