Alderney City is a neighbourhood in Grand Theft Auto IV located in central Alderney, bounded by Leftwood to the north and Berchem, Acter and Normandy to the south.
Description[]
Alderney City is the most urbanised neighbourhood of Alderney. Branches of Schlongberg Sachs, RON, Lombank, Kakagawa and International Online Unlimited are established there, making it the financial hub of the State of Alderney; yet, in spite of its corporate significance, retail in Alderney City is limited to humble discount stores.
The architecture of Alderney City is characterised by the imperious beauty of its Classical Revival skyscrapers. The Boyden Avenue-Koresh Square Building, decorated with an ionic colonnade, is the tallest building in the State of Alderney. In this regard, the austerity of the glass-clad towers overlooking the West River offer a complete contrast.
Alderney City is plagued by the criminal endeavours of the Ancelotti, Pavano and Pegorino crime families, the Korean Mob and the Spanish Lords.
Influences[]
Alderney City contains elements of Newark, New Jersey's largest city; Jersey City, New Jersey's second-largest city and where Alderney City's namesake is derived from; Trenton, New Jersey's capital; and Fort Lee, the Korean Influence seen in some areas. A lot of the buildings in Alderney City are landmarks taken from the Downtown & Ironbound Districts of Newark, along with landmarks taken from the Downtown & Journal Square Districts of Jersey City.
Fort Lee is a town with a large Korean population and is actually located far north of both Jersey City & Newark, but reasons for including it within Alderney City is mainly because the George Washington Bridge, being remodeled as the Hickey Bridge in Grand Theft Auto IV, starts in Fort Lee. This fact must have been considered by the map artists and programmers and created Koreatown within Alderney City to act as Fort Lee.
