Toni, we're one little job away from being fabulously rich. We've scoured plans of Fort Staunton. Its weakest points are along the old subway that runs underneath the area.
— Donald Love.

Bringing the House Down is the final mission in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories given to protagonist Toni Cipriani by explosives expert 8-Ball from his explosives shop in Pike Creek, Shoreside Vale, Liberty City.

Mission

Toni returns to 8-Ball who has all the explosives ready. Donald Love phones 8-Ball and informs Toni that the weakest points under Fort Staunton is the new Porter Tunnel development and the old subway tunnels. Toni leaves, carefully driving the van full of explosives to Fort Staunton. On the way, he is attacked by Forelli Family goons but manages to escape. He then enters the Porter Tunnel and drives to various parts of the Tunnel and subway tunnels, planting the explosives. Toni then leaves the tunnels, killing any construction workers who are witnesses. He escapes in a vehicle, just as the explosives detonate, destroying Fort Staunton.

Mission objectives

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Get in the van
  • Head for one of the Porter Road Tunnel entrances
  • Follow the tunnel
  • Place the explosives
  • Get back in the van
  • Place the remaining explosives
  • Don't leave any witnesses
  • Get back in the van
  • Place the remaining explosives
  • Escape through the subway entrance
  • The Forellis have blocked the way out. Find another exit

Reward

The reward for completing the mission is $5,000 and the Love on the Run mission is unlocked.

Trivia

  • The time limit does not start until the first explosive charge is placed, so the player has the opportunity to explore the abandoned subway.
  • There is a glitch in the game where before and after the mission is complete, part of the tunnel can be explored if the player can jump onto the ledge that is across from the subway platform. From there, the player must travel left until they fall through, falling into Blue Hell and eventually into the tunnel appearing in the mission. Note that only the entrance of the tunnel can be explored as the rest of the abandoned subway doesn't appear to be there, the only thing that is there is Blue Hell and a few objects that were in the mission.
  • The Forelli Family goons will not follow you once you enter the uncompleted tunnel and the old subway. You are now free to roam around it or plant the bombs at your leisure.
  • In a news report on LCFR it is stated that Forelli Family was seen entering the tunnel, suggesting that they have been blamed for the explosion.
  • The mission name is a reference to the film Bringing the House Down.
  • The mission is scripted to make Blue Hell solid. This can be found out with cheat devices during the mission. Use Step Through Wall to go through the old subway wall and keep on heading anywhere and you won't fall.
  • This is one of the few storyline missions in the entire GTA series that forces the player to kill innocent people.
  • During the destruction cutscene, you can hear a Molotov cocktail explosion in the middle of the cutscene.
