For the deleted mission with a similar name from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, see Chaperone....

Me an' the fellas need to talk business so you're gonna look after my girl for the evening.

Chaperone is a mission in Grand Theft Auto III given to protagonist Claude by the Leone Crime Family Don, Salvatore Leone from his mansion in the Saint Mark's district of Portland, Liberty City.

Description[]

Salvatore and 'the fellas' are going to discuss business and he wants Claude to look after his wife, Maria Latore. Using the same black Stretch driven in "Salvatore's Called a Meeting", Maria asks Claude to drive her to her drug dealer, Chico, who is at the Kurowski Station at the Chinatown waterfront. Claude complies and whilst she is talking to Chico, he tells her of a party taking place in a warehouse in Atlantic Quays. Maria has Claude drive her to the party, which is raided by the Liberty City Police Department. Maria manages to get back into the car driven by Claude, who drives her back to Salvatore's Gentlemen's Club.

Deaths[]

  • Chico (optional) - Can be killed after Maria speaks with him.

Reward[]

The reward for completing the mission is $10,000 and the missions Cutting the Grass for Salvatore Leone and Triads and Tribulations for Toni Cipriani are unlocked. Any incomplete missions for Luigi Goterelli and Joey Leone also become available again.

Transcript[]

Transcript
Claude goes to see Salvatore at his Gentlemen's club.
Salvatore Leone: Me and the fellas need to talk business, so you're gonna look after my girl for the evening. Hey, Maria, move your butt! Dumb broad does this every time.
Maria Latore enters the scene.
Salvatore Leone: And here she is, the one and only Queen of Sheba! What were you doing up there? Whatever it was, I bet it cost me money.
Maria: Well, you don't think I hang around for the conversation, do you?
Salvatore Leone: Get in the car and keep your big mouth shut! (to Claude) Take the limo, but bring it back in one piece, y'hear me? And watch her, she can be trouble.
Maria: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm sure your new lap dog has everything covered! And isn't he big and strong? (to Claude) Hey, Fido, let's go visit Chico and get some party treats. He's at the rail station at the Chinatown waterfront, I think.
Claude and Maria take Salvatore's limousine and head to find Chico, who's at the Kurowski Station on Chinatown's Waterfront Promenade. Maria gets out of the limo to talk to Chico.
Chico: ¡Ay, mira! It's my favorite lady! You looking for some fun? A little...hmm, some SPANK?
Maria: Hi, Chico. Nah, just the usual.
Chico: Here you go, lady. Hey, maybe you should check out the warehouse party at the east end of Atlantic Quays.
Maria: Thanks, Chico. See you around.
Chico: Gracias, and enjoy. That's good stuff.
Maria heads back to the limo.
Maria: Come on, Fido, let's go and check out this party!
Claude and Maria drive to the party at the warehouse on Atlantic Quays.
Maria: Alright, Fido, you wait in here and look after the car while I go and shake my butt, alright?
Maria leaves the limo and goes inside the warehouse.
Police Dispatch: Four-five to all units: Assist narcotics raid Atlantic Quays.
A SWAT team is dispatched in an Enforcer.
Partygoer: It's a raid!
The partygoers escape from the warehouse as the SWAT teams arrive, Maria exits moments later and gets into the limo.
Maria: OK, Fido, come on, let's get out of here! Whoo!
Claude and Maria head back to Salvatore's Gentlemen's Club with cops on their tail, making sure to bring the limousine back in one piece.
Maria: You know, I enjoyed myself for the first time in a long while, and you treated me really good, with respect and everything. Oh, I'd better go. I'll see you around, I hope.

Trivia[]

  • The music heard from the party is a sampled version of "Animal Testing Centre - DSP". The original version appeared on The Fix FM in Grand Theft Auto.
  • The subtitles are incorrect when Maria is talking to Chico. He says "mira", which means "look" in Spanish, but the subtitles show "Maria" instead. This error was fixed in the Definitive Edition.
  • The LCPD Dispatcher makes a specific announcement during this mission while Maria is in the club: "Four-five to all units: Assist narcotics raid Atlantic Quays."
  • The Enforcer arrives at the scene while the wanted level gained is two despite this vehicle normally only being seen during a 4-star wanted level.
  • This is the first storyline campaign where a Cheetah appears (excluding Vigilante/Firefighter side missions) and is also the first time it appears in Portland.
  • If those parked vehicles aren't destroyed, some participants will flee in them, otherwise they flee on foot instead.
  • The Stretch in this mission has a unique black color. It is also used in Salvatore's Called a Meeting.
  • During development[1], the mission's original name was Pulp Friction, a reference to the film Pulp Fiction.
    • In both the game and the movie, a mobster has their wife be escorted around town while they are busy with other obligations.
