Drive-By is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, given to protagonist Carl Johnson by his brother Sean "Sweet" Johnson from his home in Ganton.

Mission

Carl arrives at Sweet's doorstep where he overhears Ryder talking to sweet, insulting Carl's driving skills, with Ryder not knowing Carl is behind him. Ryder tells Carl that he's always crashing cars, but Sweet convinces Ryder to agree to Carl driving, while he rides shotgun. Carl, Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke hop into Sweet's car and head to Ballas territory around the Jefferson/Glen Park areas to perform drive-by's. The gang arrive and pull over to go over the plan. Sweet tells Carl to keep the car moving and that if he stops, they're at risk of being shot or having the car destroyed.

The gang end up shooting 3 sets of Balla gangs, before killing a fourth and final set in Glen Park, before gaining police attention. Carl drives over to Pay 'n' Spray to lose them, before driving the gang back to Grove Street.

Mission objectives

In order to complete the mission the player must:

Get in the car
Drive your homies into Balla territory
Take out the first group of Ballas
Take out the second group of Ballas
Take out the third group of Ballas
Take out the fourth group of Ballas
Use the nearby Pay 'n' Spray to lose the cops
Take your homies back to the hood

Reward

The reward for completing this mission is $500 and increased respect. The missions Home Invasion and Sweet's Girl are unlocked as well. Ballas gang members become also increasingly violent against Carl Johnson and will attack him every time he's spotted driving past them.

Transcript

Carl Johnson, Sweet Johnson and Ryder are talking outside of Sweet's House.

Ryder:

I can drive as well as CJ, man, I'm telling you!

CJ:

Hey, homie, wassup. Hey, what you saying about me, fool?

Sweet:

Wassup, man?

Ryder:

I'm saying that the East Coast made you drive like an idiot, fool. Man, you always crashing cars and shit. And for some reason now, you back, all it is, is "CJ drive here, CJ drive there". Bullshit.

Sweet:

Man, why don't you just take it easy.

Ryder:

No disrespect, man, but you can't drive for shit.

CJ:

Thanks man. Nah, nah, nah, nah, say what'chu really mean.

Sweet:

You such a good gunman, homie. You gotta ride shotgun, show CJ what's crackin'.

Ryder:

Hey, you know something - you right. Yeah, CJ, you can drive, homie.

Sweet:

Haha, he's trippin'.

CJ, Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke get into Sweet's Greenwood and drive to Glen Park to perform drive-bys on Ballas.

Ryder:

So what are we doing, homie?

Sweet:

Rolling Heights Ballas country, do us a little drive-by!

Ryder:

You know somethin', matter of fact, you're our chauffeur for this little gig. C'mon.

CJ:

Jeez, thanks, G.

Ryder:

Just don't drive like no fool.

CJ, Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke stop at Jefferson, preparing to do a drive-by.

Sweet:

Yeah, Ballas turf. You dogs ready?

CJ:

Yeah, for sure, I'm ready!

Sweet:

Carl, just concentrate on the driving and we'll take care of the shooting.

Ryder:

Listen to the man, fool. Try not to park us up a tree or something.

Sweet:

Yeah, if the car stops, we're dead meat.

Big Smoke:

*after first drive-by* We iced them! CJ, lets hunt down some more!

Sweet:

*after next drive-by* That was way too easy! Lets go blast on some more Ballas fools.

Ryder:

*after next drive-by* What you waiting for, CJ? Find us some more Ballas so we can cap 'em.

Sweet:

*after last drive-by* Smash on it, Carl, smash!

CJ, Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke lose their wanted level by visiting the Pay 'n' Spray. Once this is done, they head back to Sweet's house.

Sweet:

Yeah, Grove is back, man, Grove is back!

CJ:

Yeah, for sure, they was slippin' man!

Ryder:

Man. I'm shocked you didn't get us killed, CJ! Let me check myself. Am I dead?

Sweet:

Hey, Carl, ignore that motherfucker, you did good today.

CJ, Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke pull up near Sweet's house.

Sweet:

You're down with the Grove and the Ballas know it, so watch yourself from now on, CJ.

CJ:

Yeah, yeah, for sure, you know that. I'll see y'all later.

Big Smoke:

Here, take this, go get yourself some beers.

Trivia

Although there is a police bribe on the path of the other side of the park under the bridge, it is pointless to get it before going to the Pay 'N' Spray because the wanted level goes down only for a moment before retaining a two-star wanted level once more.
When CJ abandons his allies from Sweet's car for a short distance, Ryder will say, "Damn! He shook us!," then Big Smoke will take the driver seat and will drive away from Carl. The mission will fail and the game will say, "Are you sure you're down for the 'hood?"
If the player uses the Never Wanted Cheat or the Wanted Level Down cheat, they will still have to go to Pay 'n' Spray.
In this mission, police won't react to you until the last target is killed.
Ryder's comment on CJ's driving could be a reference as to how some Grand Theft Auto players drive, which almost always consists of crashing into various obstacles.
If the player activates any type of health cheat while inside the vehicle, you will notice that the vehicle health will decrease. This indicates that Sweet's Greenwood in the mission has more health points than a normal Greenwood.
