Ryder: “Hey, hey, look! Kilo Trays scoping us out!”
Sweet: “Damn Ryder, you a jinx!”
CJ: “Shit, them motherfuckers headed to the hood!”
The Grove Street Families members about to leave the Cluckin' Bell drive-thru.

Drive-Thru is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by Grove Street Families leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson from his home in Ganton, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Mission[]

Carl arrives at Sweet's house to find Sweet, Smoke, and Ryder walking out. Smoke suggests getting something to eat. Carl, Sweet, Smoke and Ryder get into Sweet's car and drive to Cluckin' Bell. On the way, Carl asks how his mother was killed, to which Ryder replies that they were trying to kill Sweet and that people say they saw a green Sabre involved in the shooting. They go to the drive-thru and order their food, which sees Smoke order food for everyone else and a much larger order for himself. After collecting the food, Ryder spots some Kilo Tray Ballas in a pink Voodoo, the same one that chased them a few days earlier, heading towards Grove Street.

The Ballas are chased by Carl, Sweet, Smoke and Ryder. Sweet and Ryder shoot at the Ballas car, while Smoke stuffs his face with food. The Ballas car is eventually destroyed, killing the Ballas inside. Afterwards, Carl drives Sweet, Smoke and Ryder back to Grove Street. Carl then drives Smoke back to his house in Idlewood. Along the way, Carl asks Smoke why he moved out of Grove Street. Smoke tells Carl that he received money from his aunt's will, but Grove Street will always be his home. When Carl and Smoke reach Smoke's house, Smoke gets out and heads inside.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Get in the car.
  • Get back in the car. [?]
  • Drive to the Cluckin' Bell drive-thru.
  • Chase down the gang car before they cap your homies.
  • Kill the Ballas gang members.
  • Go back to Sweet's house.
  • Drive Smoke to his house.

Reward[]

The rewards for completing the mission are $200 and an increase in respect. The mission Nines and AK's is unlocked. The gyms across the state of San Andreas are then available for use after receiving the phone call from Sweet; although going to the gyms in San Fierro or Las Venturas will result in a four-star wanted level until those regions are unlocked.

Carl Johnson waits outside as Sweet, Big Smoke and Ryder leave Sweet's House.
CJ: What's happening with 'chu Ryder?
Big Smoke: Respect has to be earned, Sweet, just like money.
Sweet: So what 'chu saying, you don't respect me?
Big Smoke: What I'm saying is...
Sweet: Speak up, ni**a!
Big Smoke: ...I'm hungry! Carl, you look a little thin man, you gotta be hungry man.
CJ: Yeah, I could eat.
Ryder: Look at 'chu fools trying to eat. How about some tacos?
Sweet: Tacos again? Hell no.
Big Smoke: Chicken man, no discussion.
Ryder: Man, I don't want no chicken.
Sweet: Carl, you drive, Smoke looks like he's gonna pass out.
CJ, Sweet, Big Smoke and Ryder get into Sweet's Greenwood and drive to Cluckin' Bell in Willowfield.
CJ: How'd Moms get killed? We gotta talk about it.
Ryder: We all gotta talk about it, they was going for Sweet.
Big Smoke: How you supposed to know that? You know what people are like, say they have love for you but won't say a word. Too damn scared.
Ryder: Some people say they saw a green Sabre doing the work, then speeding away.
Big Smoke: Yeah, but people like to talk, don't they? Anyway, that's half of Santos you talkin' about.
Ryder: Yeah, you right, my bad.
CJ: Hey, bro?
Sweet: They just sprayed the house. I ain't seen shit.
CJ, Sweet, Smoke and Ryder arrive at Cluckin' Bell at the drive-thru.
Voice Comm: Can I take your order please?
Big Smoke: Carl, what do you want? You gotta eat to keep your strength up, man.
CJ: Ey, I'll take a number 9, fat boy.
Ryder: Gimme a number 9, just like his.
Sweet: Let me get a number 6 with extra dip.
Big Smoke: I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese and a large soda.
CJ: Hey, sorry bro, you know I gotta know about moms.
Sweet: I know CJ, I know. I mean I'm just trying not to think about it, is all. I mean, I didn't even know she was hit until it was all over...
Big Smoke: Yeah, right, right, right, right, right, right. Let's eat.
They start to pull away from the drive-thru.
Ryder: Hey, don't we got beef around here? We been getting into it with these fools.
Big Smoke: I can't stand cold food. Unlike you, I ain't never ate from a trash can.
CJ: Oh shit, trash can bitch!
Sweet: Pass me my food.
Suddenly, they see a Ballas Voodoo drive past on its way to Grove Street.
Ryder: Hey, hey, look! Kilo Trays scoping us out!
Sweet: Damn Ryder, you a jinx!
CJ: Shit, them motherfuckers headed to the hood!
The Voodoo turns around as the Ballas prepare to perform a drive-by on the GSF members in the Greenwood.
Sweet: DRIVE-BY!
CJ begins chasing the Ballas while Sweet and Ryder shoot at them. Big Smoke continues to eat his meal.
Sweet: Hit it! Go, go, go! Hit the gas, we gotta ice these ni**as!
Ryder: Why you ain't blastin' Smoke?
Big Smoke: I'll shoot 'em when I'm done eatin'.
CJ: Quit stuffin' your motherfuckin' mouth! Let's go!
Big Smoke: I ain't stuffin' it homie, I'm enjoyin' my meal. Hey, kill that asshole! Shit, this a great sandwich!
Ryder: Smoke! Stop stuffin' your face and start popping them Ballas!
Big Smoke: I'm just enjoying my food!
Sweet: And them fools are trying to enjoy our deaths! Now, c'mon, Smoke, shoot!
Big Smoke: Hey, I'm just finishing my fries!
If CJ crashes the car...
Big Smoke: My special!
Ryder: Oh shit, you got ketchup all over the seat!
Big Smoke: The business at hand motherfucker, the business at hand!
Ryder: But these was clean pants!
If CJ keeps crashing the car...
Ryder: CJ, watch the damn road!
Big Smoke: Chill, motherfucker! This ain't a Sunday drive situation!
Ryder: My soda! It's all over the fucking floor!
Sweet: Well you can suck it up once we're done! Now keep your eyes on the Ballas car!
CJ, Sweet and Ryder kill the Ballas and head back to Sweet's house.
Ryder: Damn, that was some serious shit!
Sweet: Yeah man, those Ballas fools won't try that again! Come on, let's get back to the Grove.
CJ: Alright, I'm on it!
Big Smoke: Man, that food filled the hole!
Ryder: You chubby motherfucker! Next time you better blast or I blast you myself!
Sweet: Smoke, you wide, man, I mean wide!
Big Smoke: Yeah, and that's why you love me, baby!
Carl drives back to Grove Street.
Big Smoke: That's one up for the Grove!
Ryder: Say what, Smoke? All you managed to do was eat my damn food up!
Big Smoke: Yeah, it was gettin' cold!
Sweet: Y'all comin' in for a beer?
Big Smoke: Nah baby, I need to get back to the crib. CJ, gimme a ride?
CJ: Alright Smoke, let's go. See y'all later.
CJ and Big Smoke drive to Big Smoke's Home in Idlewood.
CJ: What was with you back there, Smoke?
Big Smoke: Man, if you can eat your food, while everyone else is losing theirs and blaming you, you straight homie.
CJ: What?
Big Smoke: Nothin', nothin'. Just some poetry i read.
CJ: Hey Smoke, tell me why you moved out the Grove?
Big Smoke: Man, got some money from my aunt - i mean it's a nice place and all, but the Grove is in my heart, baby - it's where my dogs is at.
CJ: Yeah, OK homie.
CJ and Big Smoke stop at Big Smoke's Home.
Big Smoke: Hey thanks, Carl. Hey, I've missed having you around, baby.
CJ: Thanks, man. I wish Sweet thought like that.
Big Smoke: He don't mean it, CJ. He's still real tor' up about your Moms, man. Here, get yourself a little smokey smoke on Smoke, and relax, homie.

Trivia[]

I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
Big Smoke when ordering his food, one of the most memorable lines throughout the entire GTA series.
PenthouseDecorations-GTAO-WallPieces169-ChickenwithDip

"Chicken with Dip", painting by Dale Shapiro.

  • Big Smoke's drive-thru order of an unusually large amount of food, a comical gag in the game, became an internet meme in late 2016.[1]
  • In Grand Theft Auto Online, as part of The Diamond Casino & Resort update, the player can buy the "Chicken with Dip" painting for the Master Penthouse that reference Big Smoke's order, which is one of the most memorable lines in the entire Grand Theft Auto series.
  • At the end of the mission, the Greenwood will be fireproof.
  • If the player makes CJ fat before this mission, in the beginning cutscene, Big Smoke will still comment that CJ is looking thin.
  • Even though the group go to Cluckin' Bell, Ryder can be seen taking a box from Big Smoke with the Burger Shot logo on it.
  • During the cutscene in the drive-thru, after the four make their orders, Smoke picks up the food at the same spot despite the pick-up window being on the other side of the building.
  • The song playing during the cutscene at Cluckin' Bell is "B.Y.S" by Gang Starr, which can also be heard on Playback FM.
  • When CJ, Smoke, Ryder, and Sweet enter the Greenwood, Ryder sits in the front passenger seat, Smoke sits behind CJ, and Sweet behind Ryder in the rear passenger seat. However, when they start chasing the Ballas, Smoke and Sweet swap seats without explanation. This is most likely a developer oversight.
  • When the second cutscene begins after the quartet arrives at the drive-thru, the four models of Ryder, Sweet, CJ and Smoke can be seen at the bottom left, merged into each other, in T-poses. A video of this can be seen here. It's a common practice to store characters or models used later in an in-engine cutscene outside of the visible area so the game can call them in quickly if needed, without loading them in a second time. In fact, if the original PS2 version is played in 4:3, two black bars cover the bottom and top half of the cutscene, hiding the models. If the game is played in widescreen, however, the bars are omitted, and the models are visible. This can be seen easier on the remastered version on the Xbox 360 because of the higher resolution. This was later removed in The Definitive Edition.
  • If the player fails to kill the Ballas before they reach the Grove Street cul-de-sac, a cutscene will show them gunning down two Grove Street Families members, failing the mission. A prompt will read, "You failed to protect your homies."
  • In the opening cutscene, the interior of Sweet's house can be seen loaded in the "exterior world" placed in the building itself. However, in normal gameplay, if Carl goes through the building, he will only find a half-solid floor and four walls. This is because in this cutscene, the model of the interior is a cutscene object itself, as opposed to being a loaded interior.
  • When CJ is driving Smoke back home, Smoke says "If you can eat your food while everybody else is losing theirs and blaming you, you straight, homie". This is a parody of the poem "If—" by Rudyard Kipling in which he writes "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you".
