Carl: “So what was that little job you was talking about, Toreno?”
Toreno: “I just want you to go pick up your brother. Get outta here.”
Mike Toreno and Carl Johnson, after receiving the phone call from Sweet.

Home Coming is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by government agent Mike Toreno from Madd Dogg's Crib in Mulholland, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Mission[]

Inside the recording studio, Carl is on the phone discussing business, until Toreno snatches the phone and ends the call. He tells Carl he has one final job before he leaves Carl alone. Carl then says he is tired of working for Toreno and threatens to kill him; the situation is disarmed when Carl's phone rings and, after being prompted by Toreno, Carl answers it. On the other end is his brother, Sweet who tells him of his release. Realizing that Toreno has delivered his promise, Carl asks him what the "little job" is. Toreno tells him to go pick up his brother.

When Carl arrives at the Los Santos Police Headquarters in Pershing Square, he is greeted by the newly freed Sweet. Carl tells him how he's moved up in the world, owning a business in San Fierro, a stake in a casino, and a mansion. Sweet is not impressed and demands to be taken back to Grove Street.

Upon arrival in Grove Street, Carl and Sweet see that the neighborhood has been taken over by baseheads/crack addicts, drug dealers, and the Ballas. A druggie has also stolen the family blender. Carl wants to abandon the place and go home, but Sweet tells him that his home is Grove Street. Together, the brothers clear out the drug dealers populating the area and reclaim Grove Street from the Ballas, taking the first steps to re-establishing the Grove Street Families in Los Santos.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Pick up Sweet from the Precinct
  • Drive Sweet to Grove Street
  • Take the hood back from the Ballas and clean out the Dealers
  • Now take back the hood (if CJ kills the dealers first)
  • Now kill the Dealers (if CJ reclaims Grove Street first)

Deaths[]

Reward[]

The reward for completing this mission is an increase in respect and the missions Cut Throat Business and Beat Down on B Dup are unlocked. The gang warfare element is enabled once again, as is the requirement for Carl to visit Denise Robinson.

Transcript[]

Transcript
Carl Johnson is talking to someone on the phone in the recording studio of Madd Dogg's Crib.
CJ: I don't care how, I care when, as in now, you hear me?
Mike Toreno snatches the phone from CJ.
CJ: Hey, man, what the-?
Toreno: Hello, boss man. Taking care of business, I see.
CJ: Toreno, fuck you. I almost lost my life out there for you.
Toreno: I've got just one tiny little thing for you to do, and then I'm out of your life forever.
CJ pulls out his gun.
CJ: You know what? I'm tired of your fucking little jobs!
Toreno: Oh, will you stop? This is pathetic, come on. You're embarrassing yourself. (puts down CJ's gun) Come on, put it down, don't be ridiculous, OK? Hey, I got a little surprise for you here. You ready for this, huh? Answer it.
CJ answers the ringing phone.
CJ: Hello?
Sweet
(Voice only):
Carl, it's me, Sweet.
CJ: Aw, Sweet!
Sweet
(Voice only):
I don't know what happened, they just released me. No idea what's going on, but I'm in the square outside the precinct in Commerce.
CJ: Alright, you hold tight, I'll be right there.
Sweet
(Voice only):
Alright.
CJ hangs up.
CJ: So what was that little job you was talking about, Toreno?
Toreno: I just want you to go pick up your brother. Get out of here.
CJ leaves the crib and drives to the Los Santos Police Headquarters in Pershing Square to pick up Sweet. As Carl is waiting outside the precinct, Sweet goes to greet his brother while holding a briefcase.
Sweet: What's up, bro?
CJ: Hey, what's up, man?
Sweet: How you doin', bro?
CJ: I'm alright, man. Hey, man - we off to a new spot! We got a mansion, Sweet! We been putting in work, and shit is going well. We got a stake in the casino, we got some insane shit in Fierro, we're getting into the rap game! Hey man, let me get you some new clothes, c'mon!
Sweet: New clothes? Ni**a, what the fuck is this bullshit?!
CJ: What you mean, man? What's mine is yours, and you know that.
Sweet: You never did get it, did you, Carl? I need to go check on things in the hood. Man, that's the problem: you always a perpetrator, running from what's real!
CJ: Hey, man, shit's fucked up there. You don't wanna be in the hood.
Sweet: No, that's exactly where I wanna be. What you done for our hood?
CJ: Man, what the hood done for me? Always dragging me down. Ever since I got out the hood, shit been cracking! That's everybody's dream, to get out of the hood...
Sweet: Man, you sound just like Smoke right now.
CJ: Alright, man, you hard. I'm gonna show you what's going on in the hood...
CJ and Sweet drive to Grove Street.
CJ: You gotta understand, shit's all fucked up now, dude.
Sweet: Yeah.
CJ: What you want, it ain't around here no more.
Sweet: Just take me to Momma's house.
Once CJ and Sweet arrive back home, they find a crack addict running off with a blender.
Dope: Hey-ey-ey-ey, yo, y'all wanna buy this blender? It's-it's really good, it-it-it sort of works.
Sweet: Man, what the fuck? That's Mom's blender!
CJ: Looks like baseheads have took over the spot. Let's go home.
Sweet: This is home, man! Get these fuckers out of Mom's house! You was born in there. Damn!
CJ and Sweet find all of the crack dealers within Grove Street and kill them all, then start a war with the Ballas to take back the hood. Once CJ and Sweet survive the gang war, they head to the latter's house.
CJ: Alright man, let's get out of here and go see Kendl.
Sweet: Kendl can come see me right here, at her home.
CJ: But it ain't nothing here no more.
Sweet: Rome wasn't built in a day, ni**a!
CJ walks away from his brother.
CJ: My brother can be a real pain in the ass!

Post-Mission Phone Call Script[]

Catalina: Hello, Claude, baby. I thought I call to say how much I love you and how well endowed you are!

Carl Johnson: Yo, Catalina, it's Carl. I think you got the wrong number.

Catalina: Oh, Carl! So sorry, it is such an easy mistake to make, especially when I am so light-headed with love, and lust.

Carl Johnson: Yeah, well I,-

Catalina: No time, byeeee!

Glitches[]

  • If the player is sitting in the black Vincent at the end of the mission, they will be wasted once the final cutscene begins because the Vincent is removed from the game.
  • If the player manages to provoke a gang war before killing all the Drug Dealers, the gang war will not end until all of the dealers are dead, creating multiple "second waves".

Video Walkthroughs[]

Trivia[]

  • A Rockstar Games logo can be seen on Sweet's suitcase.
  • There is always a black Vincent, along with a random car, parked outside the garage at Madd Dogg's mansion after the initial cutscene. The Vincent is scripted to despawn if the mission is completed successfully. In order to obtain it the player needs to fail the mission.
  • While attacking the Ballas in the gang war, only Grove Street will be flashing on the radar. After the mission, the entire Ganton will be under control.
  • If one looks closely when Toreno hangs up the phone, it "magnetizes" to the switchboard after he sets it down.
  • The post-mission phone call after this mission finally reveals the name of Claude, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III, who has remained unnamed up to this point, and made two cameo appearances earlier in the game.
