What happens in the back, stays in the back. The No1 best-selling van among kidnappers and molesters for over 30 years.
Southern San Andreas Super Autos description, GTA Online.

The Rumpo is a van featured in the 3D Universe and HD Universe. It is manufactured by Bravado in the HD Universe.

Description[]

The Rumpo has retained its overall design throughout the series, being an average-sized van capable of carrying four passengers (two in the front, two in the back).

3D Universe[]

In GTA III, the Rumpo chiefly resembles a Dodge Ram Van; in subsequent games, however, the Ram Van-derived vehicle becomes the Burrito. In GTA III, the Pony is a large van with an elevated roof; in GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas, the Rumpo inherited this design, and the Pony was given a new one.

The van appears in traffic on a busy Leonida highway in the first trailer (1:04).

In comparison to its design in GTA V, it appears to have undergone a minor facelift, with a new grille design and rear light setup. It sports a white and red company livery.

Design[]

3D Universe[]

In Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, the van appears to be based on a first generation Dodge Ram Van, with the side paneling of a Ford Van. A design trait unique to this rendition of the Rumpo are the small 70's-style windows located at the rear of the van. The van spawns in a variety of primary colors for the body, and different tones of gray for the bumpers and headlight surroundings.

From Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the Rumpo is very different, appearing to resemble the first-generation Fiat Ducato, and takes the design originally sported by the Pony (see 'Naming confusion' section below). The GTA San Andreas rendition is shown with side marker lights, details around the rear compartment and smaller wheel arches.

Rumpos typically sport a variety of company logos and are seen in a variety of primary colors for the body. The company logos that may appear are:

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]

In Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, the Rumpo resembles the Ford E-Series, with touches from the Chevrolet Express. Unlike most Bravado vehicles, the Rumpo does not take any inspiration from any Dodge car.

The Rumpo is shown with a relatively similar appearance to the GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories renditions, albeit with a more modern design and various details. The front is predominately finished in chrome and sports a traditional bumper with a plastic finish at the bottom half, and a narrow mesh intake/vent in the center of the upper half, spanning about half the van's width. The entire front end is seemingly linear in shape with the outer portions slightly angled upwards, where the main grille appears to have its outer edges aligned with the outer edges of the bumper intake/vent, and bears three horizontal dividers, with the middle one being wider and bearing the Bravado emblem. Either side of the grille area has a set of dual rectangular headlights with small indicators on the outer edges, which are split by separations that are as wide as the middle grille divider, and their outermost edges run parallel to the outer edges of the grille and the top angled edges of the van. A small hood lid is visible, which has an elevated compartment that is about as wide as the main grille, while leaving a small gap near the windshield, also following the slight curvature of the latter.

The sides of the van are clearly denoted by smooth body lines around, being the curved shapes above the wheel arches, the lower ridges between the arches and the upper lines passing through the whole body, in conjunction with protruding shapes at the bottom. The doors make use of rectangular mirror wings and vertical handles finished in plastic, while the windows have plastic trim around and impressed panelling on either side of the rear compartment. The van also has an unknown window tint applied by default.[1] The roof area is flat in shape, with protruding lines passing through the sides and rear, just above the windows.

The rear of the van features two large doors with square windows, with the driver-side one bearing the Bravado badge at the bottom and the passenger-side one a plastic section for a license plate. On either side of the rear are two vertical tail lights, whose lower edges coincide with the bottom of the rear door windows and are split between upper brake lights, middle reverse lights and lower main lights. There is a smooth body line located below the plate holder, which spans the whole width of the van, while a fully-chromed bumper sits at the bottom. On the underside, the exhaust muffler and tip can be seen on the rear-left quarter of the vehicle. Its interior is shared with other vans and various trucks in the game, which in the enhanced version use the analog "Truck" dials.

The vehicle may occasionally spawn with a Weazel News livery (though not featuring any specialized equipment), and is seen in a variety of primary colors for the body. As of the Heists update, the Rumpo can be customized at Los Santos Customs and other mod shops to add or remove the Weazel News livery, though the color still cannot be changed. It shares the wheel design with the Speedo, being five-spoke rims with medium-profile tires.

Performance[]

3D Universe[]

The Rumpo originally introduced in Grand Theft Auto III is fairly fast, but with average handling and a tendency to two-wheel and tip over under rough cornering. These characteristics are shared with the Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories version.

The redesigned Rumpo in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories handles much like the smaller Pony, but is actually lighter than it. Also, because of its height and stiff suspension, it has a nasty tendency to jolt around and even tip on bumpy roads.

All renditions of the vehicle use a petrol engine that powers the front wheels through a 5-speed gearbox, and it emits a generally smooth engine sound also shared with other vans, such as the Burrito and/or the Pony.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]

The Rumpo in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online has average acceleration compared to other vans, but can be modified with a turbocharger in Los Santos Customs and other mod shops to bring it on par with the Ambulance. The Rumpo is somewhat agile and can corner easily at low speeds. Durability is average. An advantage of the Rumpo is its high ground clearance, allowing it to cover rough ground with ease.

The Rumpo is powered by what looks like a single-cam engine, powering the rear wheels through a 5-speed gearbox. The engine sound is the same smooth and low-revving one as the other vans in the game, such as the Speedo and the Police Transporter.

Rumpo-GTAIII-Rebel
The unique cutscene version of the Rumpo.
"Rebel" Rumpo A unique, undrivable version of the van that is seen during the introduction of GTA III on the Callahan Bridge. It is named "rebel" in the game files, although it is unknown whether that was the beta name of the van or if it refers to the fact that it is used by Colombian rebels during the scene. The van lacks the rectangular panels on the doors and the sides, possibly hinting that it is an earlier rendition of the Rumpo that the developers forgot to update to match the in-game model.
Rumpo-GTA3-UnderSurveillance-front

The unique black Rumpo seen during "Under Surveillance" in Grand Theft Auto III.

Black Rumpo In GTA III, a unique all-black Rumpo with black trims appears during the mission Under Surveillance, as a vehicle occupied by two targets which the player must kill. To acquire the van, the player must open fire at the vehicle at close range using a gun, forcing the occupants to exit the vehicle. Once the targets are killed, the player may take control of the vehicle and save it in a garage after the mission is complete.

Prominent Appearances in Missions[]

Grand Theft Auto III[]

  • Big'n'Veiny - The player drives the Rumpo to track down the thief, which also owns a Rumpo, parked at the docks in the trail's end. The same Rumpo must then be delivered back again.
  • Under Surveillance - Claude must eliminate three groups of surveillance crews. The one found in Torrington drives a Rumpo.
  • Import/Export - The Rumpo is one of the 23 vehicles wanted for the Portland Island portion of the Import/Export side mission.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories[]

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories[]

Grand Theft Auto Online[]

  • Five Weazel News variants are parked around Los Santos in the "Fake News" Casino Work, where the correct one must be found and the driver (reporter) killed.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, and GTA Vice City Stories renditions of the Rumpo feature a cosmetic glitch in which any Rumpo using a Pay 'n' Spray will emerge with its front bumper facing in the opposite direction, towards the rear. The problem can be remedied simply by parking the vehicle in a garage to restore it to its original condition. This glitch also applies to the GTA Vice City Pony.
  • Rumpo is a British English slang term for sexual intercourse. Coincidentally, it is also Latin for "I burst".
    • Humorously, the first mission requiring the use of the vehicle involves collecting stolen pornographic magazines.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars[]

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]

  • Before the Heists update, if the player entered a Los Santos Customs garage with the Rumpo, its manufacturer was stated as Grotti, despite the Rumpo is made by Bravado.
  • As of update 1.21, the Rumpo's performance upgrades have been limited.

Bugs/Glitches[]

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]

  • There is a small modelling error on the rear right wheel arch; part of the underside texture is misplaced around the rear portion, which exposes part of the interior.
