The Squalo (spelt Squallo in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories) is a go-fast boat in the Grand Theft Auto series, available in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. It is manufactured by Grotti in GTA IV, and Shitzu in GTA V.
Description[]
Throughout its appearances, the Squalo is easily recognisable as one of the speedboats featured in the series. Colour variations may also differ between games. In its original appearance in GTA Vice City, the boat comes with a combination of a constant white with a variable bright colour, while later renditions feature more flexible colour choices.
Design[]
3D Universe[]
In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the design of the Squalo closely resembles a Chris-Craft Stinger 390x (which was a vehicle used in the 1980s TV show Miami Vice), with elements from the Wellcraft Scarab 38 KV. In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, however, the design leans more towards the Scarab 38 KV, albeit with a curved windscreen.
The Squalo assumes an aerodynamic design with a large profile, featuring a long hull with a bow that takes almost half the length of the whole boat and two rectangular sections finished in black. The cabin quarters are generally ample and feature traditional front seats and an unusable rear bench seat. Towards the stern area, there is the engine bay, the twin outboard engines and four propulsion jets/nozzles. The renditions of the Squalo in GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas are specifically given "Squalo II" and "Squalo III" names, respectively, suggesting a series of Squalos were released over time.
- The "Squalo II" is more traditional in term of features and has what look like dual ridges/stripes in the centre. The cabin quarters are seemingly rectangular in shape and appear to have no windscreen and a distinctive spoiler, while the engine bay features a single intake. Most of the hull, the cabin quarters and part of the spoiler are given a permanent white primary colour.
- The "Squalo III" is more detailed and adds a set of grey/silver rails around the edges of the bow and towards the cabin quarters. The same cabin quarters are more rounded in shape around the front and feature a curved windscreen, while a small compass can be seen ahead of the dashboard and an unusable door leading to the living quarters. The stern area adds a set of docking cleats on the gunwales and dual intakes for the engine bay, together with handles/frames beside these. Unlike the previous model, however, there is no spoiler option. The Squalo is given a larger variety of colours, and is one of the few vehicles in GTA San Andreas to have three different slots assigned (the others being the Camper and the Cement Truck). First, the primary colour is applied to most of the upper side of the hull, part of the lower side that intersects with the secondary and tertiary colours and through the rear side, between the secondary and tertiary colours. Then, the secondary colour is applied as a thin stripe on the upper side of the hull, around the cabin and engine bay, and part of the lower hull, which intersects with the primary colour stripes. Finally, a tertiary colour is applied to the lower side of the hull around the front and going towards the middle portion of the boat, as well as the engine bay itself. This model is prominently white with a different secondary colour, except for full-black and red-black versions.
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
For Grand Theft Auto IV, the Squalo takes inspiration from boats such as the Sea Ray 210 Overnighter and the Fibrafort 265.
The Squalo assumes a more curved and modern design, but is comparably shorter than its earlier counterparts. The boat features a bulky hull with a circular hatch on the deck and small cleats near the windscreen, while the cabin quarters are seemingly open towards the stern and feature four seats for the occupants. The stern/rear end features a wide swim step and the propulsion system below.
The Squalo will spawn either with or without a spoiler over the cabin quarters, similarly to the 3D Universe renditions. It is assigned a primary colour for the lower portions of the hull, most of the outer edges and most of the optional spoiler, and a secondary colour for the upper portions of the hull, the upper deck of the bow, part of the gunwales and the upper frontal portions of the spoiler.
Grand Theft Auto Vand Grand Theft Auto Online[]
In Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, the Squalo remains largely similar to the GTA IV rendition, albeit with small differences. The bow has a set of circular headlights added and the hatch on the deck is painted, while the cabin quarters and swim step on the stern area gain a white finish. However, it has a reduced capacity, as the rear seats were removed. In the enhanced version, the boat uses analogue "Truck" dials also shared with other boats.
Colour distribution remains similar to the GTA IV iteration, although the lower portions of the cabin quarters are painted with the primary colour.

Performance[]
3D Universe[]
The Squalo, like any high-end speedboat, possesses excellent speed and is the "fastest boat" as mentioned in one of Diaz's missions in GTA Vice City. Like any high-performance boat, the Squalo is capable of turning on a dime when the throttle is applied.
All renditions of the Squalo are powered by twin outboard engines, and use a mid-revving engine sound shared with other boats, with the GTA San Andreas iteration being seemingly lower-pitched, sharing this sound with all other boats in the same game.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Squalo performs as well as in the 3D Universe, having good speed and good acceleration. While it is not as fast as the Jetmax or the Smuggler, the Squalo possesses rather impressive handling, given its shorter design.
The Squalo is powered by twin inboard engines with Z-drive propellers. It uses a high-revving and high-pitched engine sound also shared with other speedboats.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Squalo remains a relatively fast boat, and while still inferior to the Jetmax, it possesses good handling. Due to the revised water physics, the Squalo may experience some reduction of speed while sorting out waves.
Again, the Squalo is powered by twin inboard engines with Z-drive propellers. It shares the engine sound with the Turismo R, Feltzer and Carbonizzare.

Static Variants[]
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
A different Squalo can be found at Los Santos Lifeguard facilities but is a prop rather than a vehicle so is unusable by the player. It can be distinguished by a weathered gradient striped paint job, name and numbering on the side and a distinctive timber deck. They sit on dual-axle trailers (whereas the standard Squalo trailer is a single-axle). One is attached to a Power Metal lifeboat crane at the end of the pier at Chumash.
Locations[]
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]
- One is docked at the Viceport Boatyard once it has been purchased. It activates the side mission Checkpoint Charlie when entered.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
- One is docked at the Bayside Marina, close to the Boat School, after the player completes the school and gets at least a silver medal on each test.
- One is docked at a small dock under the Garver Bridge, San Fierro, behind a Tropic.
- Two are moored on the water to the west of Bayside, Tierra Robada, behind The Cordillera.
- One is moored on the water near the northernmost pillar of the Gant Bridge, near Bayside, close to a Reefer.
- It can occasionally be found on the following waterways: to the south of Las Venturas and near Bayside.

Trivia[]
General[]
- Squalo is Italian for "shark".
3D Universe[]
- In GTA San Andreas, on the back side of the Squalo, the phrase "San Andreas Co. 90210" is written, which might be reference to the zip code of Beverly Hills, California.
HD Universe[]
- In GTA IV and GTA V, the player can cause the spoiler of a Squalo, if there is one, to detach as a result of a violent crash.
- In GTA V, it can spawn with an orange and white "creamsicle" paint job, this is a reference to the 1980s TV show Miami Vice, more specifically the intro featuring a similar boat.
