Revision as of 13:29, 1 November 2011
Grand Theft Auto V, also known as GTA 5 or GTA V, is a Rockstar North video game currently in development. It is the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series. GTA V was announced on the October 25th 2011, with a tweet stating: "#GTAV rockstargames.com". On the 26th of October 2011, Rockstar put a Grand Theft Auto V trailer countdown on their homepage, with the trailer set to launch on the 2nd of November 2011, at 12:00PM GMT. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, shares jumped seven percent following the revelation that Grand Theft Auto V is in development.
Location
The setting of GTA V is currently unknown, but this will probably be revealed in the first trailer. The game is likely to take place in the United States, based on the similarity between the V in the its logo and an old-style United States five-dollar bill. It is almost certain that GTA V will not take place in Liberty City, considering the previous game has recently been set there. There are many numerous predicted and speculated settings for GTA V, such as:
- Los Santos (L.A.) or San Andreas (California/Nevada) - sources claimed that Rockstar was searching the area around Hollywood in July 2010. However, it is more likely that they were carrying out research for L.A. Noire instead of GTA V. Also, there were some references for San Andreas in Rockstar's websites.
- Vice City (Miami) - Many references to Vice City were made in GTA IV.
- Washington D.C. - The V in the GTA V Logo is styled like a Five Dollar Bill, many Five Dollar Bills are printed there.
Protagonist
Accordingly, the protagonist is still unknown, but this will almost certainly be revealed in the upcoming trailer. Despite this, some speculate Packie McReary could be returning as the main character. After the end of TBOGT, Packie left Liberty City on a westbound plane with his luggage to an unknown location.
Release Date
This is unknown as of yet but is hoped to be announced in the first trailer. Based on prior GTA games, the game should be released about 7.5 months after the first trailer, forecasting GTA V's release in July 2012. However, considering GTA IV was released 13 months after the first trailer, putting GTA V's release as late as the end of November to early December in 2012, if there are any delays such as in the previous game. A release date in November is also fairly likely because doing so would place it in Holiday shopping territory, though should this happen the game would have to compete with other popular video game titles released around this time too.
Trivia
- An advertisement from The Ballad of Gay Tony in Star Junction said "Liberty City, it's over! NEXT STOP.". Some have taken this to mean that GTA V will most definitely not be set in Liberty City.
