Template:Infobox vehicles

Marketed heavily on patriotism, a Granger commercial always includes scenes of strong Americans baling hay and winning wars. Strictly speaking, this full-size pickup is still "made in America"... If you include Central and South America.

The Declasse Granger is a four-door full-size SUV featured in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Design

The Granger features North American styling, similar to the eleventh generation Chevrolet Suburban in terms of the front-end, side and rear profile, with subtle design cues of the refreshed model, applied to the front end. Its headlights resemble the 2007-2013 GMC Sierra.

The front of the SUV is geometric and designed to create a butch profile. At the base of the front bumper there is a central trim area with elevated rectangles, made from a polymer. Level with the top of the trim and on either side of it, there are circular fog lamps. The main grille and headlight units are located above the protruding front bumper. The main grille has three main horizontal chrome strips, the middle strip bearing the manufacturer emblem. Inset between the three main strips there are thinner horizontal strips. The headlamps have bottom edges in line with the top edge of the bottom main grille strip and top edges in line with the bottom edge of the grille's main top chrome strip. The headlight units feature two main wider sections (split by a continuation of the grille's central chrome strip) and then a thin, tall amber strip out at the edges. The hood features a large elevated area whose boundaries continue the side boundaries of the grille.

The sides of the SUV's body illustrate its intention for off-road use. The wheel arches and much of the area between them are elevated from the rest of the body. Above the elevated area the body has no extra formations. The greenhouse area features windows that have thin trim around the edges. The D-pillars are finished with trim however. On the roof there are six longitudinal ridges and a roof rail at either side. The SUV has been seen with high profile tires and split five spoke wheels, similar to those found on the Ruiner.

The rear features thin tail light units that sit between the rear windscreen and the protruding rear bumper. The rear light units are split into three sections, being three rectangles positioned one above the other.

FIB Design

The FIB Granger is essentially a civilian Granger, except with additional rear ariels, and emergency lights fitted in the grille, windows and rear lights.

Sheriff SUV Design

The decal design on the Sheriff SUV is modeled after those of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's vehicles, but, unlike the LASD, the decal is stretched across both doors, instead of just the front. The SUV features a number on the the rear fascia, it will always end in the number on the roof.

Lifeguard Design

The Lifeguard SUV features a yellow body color painted over white (which can be seen when the doors are open), with the text "LIFEGUARD" printed in red on its sides and rear. In addition, there are roof racks which hold an unusable surfboard and two rescue cans. The front roof rack also has a light bar, which can be activated along with the siren when the horn button is clicked (the same as all emergency vehicles with lights and sirens); this is because it is a department of the Los Santos Fire Department (LSFD).

The design strongly resembles an actual Californian lifeguard SUV.

Park Ranger Design

The Park Ranger comes in a mostly-white color scheme, with emergency roof lights and windows lights identical to those found on the Sheriff SUV. The decal design seems to be modeled slightly off of the United States Park Ranger vehicles.

Performance

Civilian Variant

GTA V

Granger,Declasse

Engine view.

The Granger is a powerhouse, due to its superior turbocharged V8 engine (further modeling shows an Inline-4 engine) and extremely stable 4x4 design with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it's best designed for taking, and dishing out, serious punishment. Although lacking in the raw speed of a sports-class vehicle, the Granger has no problem navigating difficult terrain such as mountainous, rocky, or sandy areas, making it ideal for off-road escapes, especially when running from smaller on-road designed vehicles.

The Granger is capable of sustaining multiple assaults from head-of collisions and drive-by shootings, while remaining driveable, making it a favorite of the NOOSE, Sheriff and Park Rangers.

The one downside of the Granger is its relatively low ride height, which makes certain obstacles, such as steep stairs and steep inclines an issue. In order for the SUV to make it over these obstacles the front bumper may need to be broken off.

The Granger is a large vehicle, and because of this, can hold up to 8 passengers (4 inside and 4 outside)- which makes it one of the largest capacity vehicles in the game in this regard. The Granger, due to its great torque and weight, is able to barrel through most cars on the road, including roadblocks, fences, and even larger cars.

Emergency Service Variants

GTA V

The emergency Grangers are easily the best performing SUVs in the game. It improves on the civilian vehicle in every way, with good acceleration (about on par with the Interceptor), and stiff suspension which prevent them from rolling over in high speed turns. They also have high top speeds, great off road performances, and decent brakes. In a whole, the Emergency Service Grangers have better performance than the Civilian variants, specifically in braking and acceleration.

Emergency Service Variants

There are four non-civilian variants of the Declasse Granger:

  • The FIB and NOOSE use all black unmarked Grangers for service and for special response, respectively.
  • The Los Santos County Sheriff's NOOSE use black and white Grangers, with a livery identical to the LSPD's.
  • The Lifeguards at Vespucci Beach use yellow Grangers with unique orange sirens.
  • The San Andreas Park Rangers use white Grangers with green stripes.

Locations

GTA V

Civilian Variant

  • Often seen in Blaine County, particularly, the section of the Route 68 highway running through Harmony, and Paleto Bay.
  • Chianski Passage (on the left at the side of the road heading towards the 'Humane Labs and Research'). There's a gang of G-men hanging out at the house, who'll start shooting if the car gets jacked. This can result in a 2 star wanted level, which can easily be avoided by going off-road to the east.
  • It's a relatively common vehicle to see in both, the city and the countryside.
  • Most of the time near Fort Zancudo east checkpoint, in a dirt road.

Emergency Service Variants

  • The FIB Granger:
  • The Sheriff SUV Granger:
    • Will be sent out when the player gains 4 or 5 stars within Blaine County.
  • The Lifeguard Granger:
    • Will sometimes spawn near Lifeguard huts on the Vespucci Beach.
    • Also seen patrolling the beach from time to time.
  • The Park Ranger Granger:
    • Will spawn patrolling the Raton Canyon and Mount Chiliad State Wilderness.
    • Will also respond as an emergency vehicle in the aforementioned locations.

Trivia

Civilian Granger

  • The Granger can transport up to 8 passengers — 4 can sit inside the car, while an additional 4 can hang onto the sides, standing on the running boards. The passengers hanging onto the outside are able to use assault rifles and MGs while being driven, similar to the Roosevelt, making this car excellent for drive by's and assaulting other cars. Care must be taken by the driver of the vehicle when players are riding on the running boards since they can be knocked off and killed in collisions.
  • The Granger has an audible "door ajar" chime, which can be heard when the driver door is open, and the engine is running, like many other cars in the game.
  • The Rancher XL is an SUV also based on the Suburban but an older generation. The Rancher XL could be based on the Chevrolet Blazer to avoid confusion.
  • The Granger particularly used in GTA V is badged as a "3500LX," referring to the engine series used in the SUV like its real Chevrolet counterpart, which used the V8 engine from the Silverado 2500, as well as poking fun at the vehicle's trim level. In this case, the Granger would be based on a Yukon XL in particular.
  • The default radio station of the Granger is Non Stop Pop FM.
  • Southernsanandreassuperautos.com describes the Granger as a pickup truck despite the fact that it is entirely based on an SUV. Although this could be referencing the fact it can hold a lot of people.
  • Out of all the emergency vehicles in GTA V, the Granger has the most variants, with a total of 4.
  • Both the Granger and the Rancher are named after a different slang terms for a farmer.
  • In the enhanced version of the game, the civilian Granger has LED police lights much like the FIB Granger, albeit non-functioning. These were removed in an update.

FIB Variant

  • Even though the vehicle is owned by the FIB, NOOSE officers use these cars. It is probably more of a tactical car than a undercover SUV, as in real life, SWAT operatives use undercover vehicles in order to avoid being identified.
  • During the mission Carbine Rifles, the FIB Granger has bullet-proof tires.
  • Like the Sheriff SUV, when they spawn, they don't chase the player as frequent as the LSPD, instead they will try to ram the player off the road.
  • In the Enhanced Version, the siren was altered for the PS4/XB1/PC version, where it now sounds like a 90's police siren. The same siren is also used on the FIB Buffalo. Because of this, the siren will no longer malfunction when shot.

Sheriff SUV Variant

  • The Sheriff SUV appear with the following aerial roof numbers: 05, 27, 32, 76, 84. Also, regardless if the vehicle's color is changed, the roof number's portion remains unchanged, as seen in the black version.
  • The SUVs are fitted with roof rails that allow members of the NOOSE team to hang on the side of the vehicle in a similar fashion to how the real life SWAT teams in Los Angeles hang onto the sides of LASD Chevrolet Suburbans.
  • Unlike other Los Santos County Sheriff units, the Sheriff SUV is black and white, instead of just white.
  • Before the 1.06 Update, the Sheriff SUV could be customised at Los Santos Customs, though the only customisations available were the colour and the ability to fit the vehicle with bulletproof tyres.

These colors are simply labeled as main color Nº (N is the number of the list), instead of the color's real name. Also, the pearlescent option has missing names, but the price is still in the menu.

  • For unknown reasons, during missions when players are meant to earn at least 4 stars, the Sheriff SUV never makes an appearance, only when outside of missions. The same is for the FIB Granger; however, there are missions where this appears when under 4 stars. A little exception is made in The Fleeca Job heist, but only at 3 stars.
  • Sometimes, when NOOSE officers are leaving the scene unharmed, when using the Lester blind eye feature in GTA Online, the player can drive off with the SUV with the NOOSE still on the side, not harming the player. If the player comes into contact with other enemies (such as in Gang Attack), the NOOSE officer will shoot the enemies. However, when the timer runs out, the NOOSE officer will jump off the SUV, resulting in a wanted level.
  • A unique black Sheriff SUV with a white roof appears at the end of The Fleeca Job chasing the Kuruma, it will usually attempt to ram right as the Magnet picks up the car, resulting in it speeding underneath. It cannot be obtained.

In the Enhanced Version, the siren was altered for the PS4/XB1 version; it is now higher-pitched. The unused lights fitted in the front window have now been removed, and shooting the siren/lights will no longer result in a malfunctioning siren.

Lifeguard Variant

  • This vehicle has unique emergency lights, that do no appear on any other emergency vehicle. Also, the rear lights flash differently from the FIB Granger and Sheriff SUV, despite they share the same design.
  • Unlike all the other Granger's siblings, the Lifeguard SUV can only carry 4 people, including the driver. This is due to the roof equipment replacing the roof rails present on all other versions.

Park Ranger Variant

  • It is also seen that people can sit in the back of the trunk the vehicle in The Civil Border Patrol and An American Welcome.
  • The Park Ranger vehicle in GTA V looks very similar to the Los Angeles' Park Ranger vehicle, with the exception of it does not have a green line across the vehicle.
  • Upon entering this vehicle, you will obtain a Carbine Rifle.
  • Upon entering, the HUD doesn't display that the car is made by Declasse; it simply says "Park Ranger, Emergency". Although it still has the Declasse brand in the front of the vehicle.

Before Patch 1.12, the Park Ranger was classed as a SUV. But, after the patch was released it has been properly recategorized as a Emergency vehicle. It could have been used in a race, and even possible to apply a paintjob instead of the Park Ranger livery.

  • In one of the early screenshots of the game, NOOSE officers can be seen driving it. It could be that in the beta, the Park Ranger was used as a placeholder before the Sheriff SUV came in.
  • There are 4 unused lights at the front windshield. The same happens on the Sheriff SUV.
    • These have been removed for the enhanced version of GTA V.

Cultural References

  • This is the second SUV in the Grand Theft Auto series to be placed on the same platform as the Cavalcade, similar to the GMT930 platform for the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL.
  • The name Granger is a subtle poke at the Suburban, as a Granger is a slang term for a farmer and the Suburban was originally designed for farmers before becoming a full-size SUV.
