Knife After Dark is a horror film heard being advertised on a radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, parodying slasher films of the early 1980s. The movie tells the story of Danny, a young teenager who goes on a killing spree, and is rated "R for Retarded". A line in the trailer, "I didn't know it was hockey season", appears to pay reference to the Friday the 13th films, where the main antagonist wears a hockey mask. On Pressing Issues, Jan Brown mentions that she won't let her children watch the movie. The film is advertised on the radio and has its own tagline and rating.
Male: He was just the boy next door…
Old Male (in Southern accent): Hi! Well hello there Danny! I didn’t know it was hockey season...
Danny: Hey, can I borrow a knife!
Male: A deadly curse, a deranged killer, a small town in tears! Knife After Dark, rated R for Retarded.
- A movie synopses on the in-game website Classicvinewood.com, in GTA V, mentions that Knife After Dark was inspired by the movie Butchery And Other Hobbies, proving that Knife After Dark also exist in the HD Universe.
- The line, "I didn't know it was hockey season..." from the Knife After Dark radio advertisement, while an obvious reference to Jason Vorhees from the Friday the 13th film franchise, may also be a reference to the 1988 remake of The Blob — in that film, several characters are shown watching a fictional horror film in a movie theatre featuring a hedge trimmer-wielding, hockey mask-wearing psychotic killer. When one of the killer's victims sees him, he comments, "I thought hockey season ended months ago?"
