Maurice Chavez is the host of VCPR in both Vice City Stories and Vice City and has his own show called Pressing Issues. According to Alex Shrub, one of his guests, Chavez previously worked as "Sal the wheat-free clown", entertaining at birthday parties, bar mitzvas and juvenile correctional facilities. His salary was meagre, at less than $2,000, and at one point Chavez considered having a sex-change operation. He was discovered by Michelle Montanius in 1980, and the two had a brief love affair, resulting in Michelle falling pregnant. Maurice avoided paying for an abortion, much to Michelle's distress and anger. It is unknown whether Montanius kept the child. Chavez is treated with contempt by the Montanius and Jonathan Freeloader, though he is completely oblivious to this.

Chavez's programme, Pressing Issues, began broadcasting in late night time slots. Upon gaining a level of success, Maurice won several broadcasting awards, including "Best Personality". Maurice also appears to have repressed anger issues, as he quite often snaps or even lashes out at his guests. In 1986 he has violent confrontations with both Pastor Richards and Jeremy Robard, breaking the latter's nose with a paperweight.
