The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) is a rating system created in April 2003 and used in continental Europe. In total, 29 European countries now use it, although it has no legal effect, except in Finland. Ratings are sorted by age categories, with the mildest being 3+ (for ages 3 and up), and the strongest being 18+ (for ages 18 and up). On 30 July 2012, PEGI replaced the BBFC as the main ratings system in the United Kingdom, though it maintains a similar rating scheme to the BBFC. Currently, PEGI rates all video games, whilst the BBFC maintains its role as rating films.
