The Quadbike Time Trials are a set of side missions available in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. They're available from the beginning of the game by riding a Quad parked around the dirtbike tracks in Downtown Vice City. This side missions substitute the Trial By Dirt sub-mission that used to take part here in GTA Vice City.
These missions are required for 100% completion of the game.
The side mission consists in four courses, that get unlocked as you progressively beat each of them. The objective is to finish a 3-lap race within a time limit by hitting the checkpoints spread around the dirt-track. The minimum time limit is around 1:10 to 1:25 minutes.
Completing the four courses will grant you $2500. You can keep playing this mission once you've completed it. Each time you beat your time record, you receive a higher prize (in money).
These trials are extremely frustrating due of the erratic and poor handling of the Quad, which usually oversteers and heads out of the tracks and bump into the palm trees, making you waste precious seconds. Here's some basic tips to complete these trials.
- Control your speed. It is very easy to lose control of the vehicle in high speeds and very easy to cause the Quad to fishtail in the moment it hits an uneven surface. Remain fast but don't go full throttle.
- Steer by tipping your pad. The Quad has an awful steering that make the vehicle do weird spins if you hold the steering wheel, instead, try to steer tapping your control instead and use the handbrake in tight turns.
- Control your jumps. Jumping too high may cause you to be dismounted as soon you land, losing precious time. If you're facing a ramp, go in a reasonable speed and level your Quad in the air.
