Radio Espantoso is a radio station that appears in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. This station basically plays Afro-Latin American tropical music, ranging from Latin Jazz to Mambo, Son, Salsa and Latin Funk/Disco among other genres. The DJ of the station in 1984 is Hector Hernandez. In 1986, Pepe replaces Hector, and Pepe is of Cuban descent. Radio Espantoso is also the preferred radio stations of the Cubans/Los Cabrones. The word "Espantoso" directly translates to as 'Horrible' or 'Awful' in Spanish. The station haves the peculiarity of playing some songs from well into the '50s.

The station is referred to as simply Espantoso in GTA Vice City.
The song "A Gozar Con Mi Combo" by Cachao (1994, from the album "Master Sessions Vol. 1") is the only one which is anachronistic in the playlist.
Although Irakere's song "Añunga Ñunga" is incorrectly credited in Vice City's booklet as "Aguanile", there's another song from the band called "Aguanile Bonkó".
After playing "Jamay" from Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra in Vice City, Pepe says "ha hecho el otro día un come mierda italiano grasoso me trató de robar el carro cuando estaba manejando, ¿qué es eso, gente...?, seguro que ese tipo no sabía con quién él estaba jugando, ¿ah?, here we go more music!" which means "in fact the other day a shit eating, greasy Italian man tried to steal my car when I was driving, what's that, people...?, sure that guy didn't know with whom he was playing, eh?, here we go more music!" which implies that it was Tommy Vercetti that tried to carjack him, it would also mean that Pepe is one of the pedestrians around the city.
In GTA Vice City Stories, just after playing the song "Acid" by Ray Barretto, Hector mentions he was a "famous telenovelas (soap operas) actor in El Salvador, in Chile" before becoming a DJ. However, while there indeed is a Chilean town named El Salvador, he was most likely referring to El Salvador, a country in Central America, since Hector has a Caribbean or Central American accent rather than a Chilean one. It is also strange he does not sport an Uruguayan accent, since his voice actor, [[Frank Rodriguez[[, is Uruguayan.
Despite the name of the station meaning "awful" or "horrible", this station is very loved by the Latin American and Spanish fandom of GTA, having achieved cult status there, with "La Vida Es Una Lenteja" ("Life Is A Lentil") being the most recognized song.
