Staunton plaza

Staunton Plaza is a unfinished building complex in Fort Staunton, Liberty City constructed by Panlantic Construction Company and sold by Fort Staunton's Premier Real Estate, located at a large construction site.

Prior to 1998, the site's location was part of the neighborhood of Little Italy and several businesses stood in its place. However, during 1998, Toni Cipriani and 8-Ball set-up several bombs in the abandoned subway system beneath Fort Staunton at Donald Love's behest so as to demolish the area, so that Love would be contracted by the city to rebuild it, thus reigniting his career in real estate development. Love began the reconstruction program and the office building was one of its features.

By 2001, Fort Staunton is almost completely repaired, with only the office building site left unfinished. Due to Panlantic's ties with the Cartel, they control the site during the majority of Grand Theft Auto III, until the Grand Theft Aero mission, when it is taken over by Asuka Kasen and the Yakuza.

After the Yakuza take over, Asuka uses the building as the start point for the remaining missions she gives Claude.

Trivia

  • The construction site was initially believed to be a reference to the World Trade Center site in New York City, which was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  However, this is unlikely, as the game was in development well before the attacks.
  • In fact the building is much wider than that it shows when its done on the advertising poster.
