The Switchblade is a melee weapon seen in Grand Theft Auto IV and featured in Grand Theft Auto Online, added in the Executives and Other Criminals update.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Switchblade is a small folding blade primarily based on the Italian Stiletto from World War II. The Switchblade is also likely based on the Massaro or Beltrame Stiletto knives.
It makes only one appearance in the game, in the cutscene for the mission Three's a Crowd. It is used by Dardan Petrela to threaten Roman Bellic for not paying his debts, before he is swiftly disarmed by Niko. As Dardan and Bledar Morina flee, Roman picks up the knife and taunts them with it before dropping it on the floor. It is not seen further in either gameplay or cutscenes; the latter often use the combat knife available in the game instead.
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The switchblade returns in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Executives and Other Criminals update, this time as a usable weapon. The weapon is grey with a black/grey handle by default, as well as "STAINLESS STEEL" and "EDINBURGH" carved into the bottom of the blade.
Depending on the player's occupation in an organization, there are two different appearances for the weapon: the "Bodyguard" version, which has a brown/black handle with a shorter separation of the blade and the handle and having a small serration on the blade; and the "VIP" version, which has a black/gold handle with a curved separation and a slightly curved end on the blade.
Depending on whether the weapon is equipped or unequipped (not switching weapons), the character swings the handle to extend or retract the blade.
Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The Switchblade is virtually similar to the Knife, having the same lethal damage and short range, but it is able to instantly kill enemies with stealth attacks. Its only downside, however, is that it cannot be used while underwater.

Bugs/Glitches[]

- The requirements for the VIP and Bodyguard skins may for some unknown reason reset. This also happens on the Heavy Revolver.
Trivia[]
- The design of the weapon seems to be inspired by the real life AKC Swinguard Stiletto Knife.
