Bureau of Narcotics[]
Should the references to the Bureau of Narcotics in the Liberty Tree be mentioned here? Since both the DOA and the Bureau of Narcotics are referenced in GTA IV it probably is just an alternative name. --SawyerDN (talk) 14:41, September 30, 2013 (UTC)
Dead on Arrival[]
Considering most businesses and agencies in the GTA history are a play on words of other terms, like FIB (fib = lie), NOOSE (knot for public hangings), Globalpol (Interpol counterpart), why is it so hard to imagine Rockstar possibly making a play on words for DOA (Dead On Arrival) when the whole game revolves around parody, satire, sexual innuendos and other easter eggs? I think it is worth noting. Every time somebody wants to add it in the page, it's removed. Why? People can make their own conclusions. Most of the time, wiki pages are based on assumptions, not on confirmed truths. Neaksy (talk) 17:39, July 31, 2017 (UTC)
- FIB and NOOSE I can see, but not any connection between this frankly. Other than the shared acronym, there is no correlation between the two names, because why would a law enforcement agency's name be related to a medical acronym? As for the part about it suggesting corruption, how so? Dead on arrival is a common medical term and does not suggest corruption. Sam Talk 21:44, July 31, 2017 (UTC)
- Why can't this trivia not be added as an anecdote anyway? Even if it's not the intent from Rockstar, I don't see why it hurts anybody to add this as some sort of like "hey, interesting fact, X, in real-life means Y and could refer to Z." Why are you so relunctant in adding this as an extra bit of information? Just because you think it's not true doesn't mean it is not. Now, as you've said, fictional agencies in the GTA HD Universe have satirical names (FIB = lie, NOOSE = referencing public hangings). It's not hard to assume that DOA would follow that formula. Could be a reference to corruption, covering up for their abuse of power by lying about the death of the people they've killed; Rockstar does address governmental bodies corruption in their games; the DEA is documented as being a corrupt agency. Plus, I don't see that DOA trivia any different to the FIB one. They just changed "Federal Bureau of Investigation" to "Federal Investigation Bureau," just the wording to get away with a different agency name. It could be a coincidence that the initials produce a synonym of lie too. Besides, according to the page history, I'm not the only person to think it could be Rockstar's intent, and I see no downside not to add this. What are your arguments against adding this as part of the trivia, even if it's just said it is most likely a coincidence?
