Tanner was a character in Grand Theft Auto series who appears as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto III (set in 2001).

Tanner is an undercover police officer with the Liberty City Police Department. He is not voiced during his appearance.

History

Background

Tanner was born and raised in the United States and, at some point, joined the Liberty City Police Department, later becoming an undercover officer. He is later tasked with following Yakuza co-leader Asuka Kasen and becomes her chauffeur.

Events of GTA III

Death

Asuka later discovers this and hires Claude to kill him on the streets of Staunton Island. Asuka leaves a note for Claude and tells Claude to find Tanner at Kenji's Casino. When Claude arrives at the casino, Tanner sees him, rushes to his car and tries to escape, but Claude manages to kill him.

References to "Driver" series

Tanner's name is a reference to the Driver protagonist, John Tanner, who is also referenced in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Tanner is given a female pedestrian's running animation, a reference to the strange way that Tanner walks in the Driver games.
