The Cordillera is a small mountain range in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas located in Bayside, Tierra Robada. It is the second highest land feature in San Andreas, just behind Mount Chiliad, and is the highest on the northern landmass (Tierra Robada, Bone County, and Las Venturas).

Description[]

It is located north of Bayside not far from the Gant Bridge (coastside near San Fierro), separating the town from the open sea. This area remains unnamed on the map and it is not included in any mission; players may favor it for its beautiful looks and because it is ideal for off-roading, providing both easier and harder challenges depending on the player's preferences. Along the upper ridge of the mountain are several lights that illuminate the cordillera at night.

Influence[]

It is based on Mount Tamalpais and the Mount Tamalpais State Park, which are considered symbolic of Marin County (the area Bayside is based on).

Trivia[]

  • The fact that the Cordillera is unnamed suggests that it was added much later in the game's development.
  • Beyond the Cordillera are other areas of San Andreas which are simply not depicted in game for gameplay purposes, as seen on the San Andreas Tourist Board.
