A tritagonist is the third most important character of a story, after the protagonist and deuteragonist. The tritagonist is typically the least focused on character out of the three and is not as involved in the narrative, but can still play an important role as a companion to the protagonist, or as the instigator of some sort of conflict for the main character.

The tritagonists in the Grand Theft Auto series have several things in common. In most games, the tritagonist has never met the protagonist before and starts to know them better through the missions that they give to them. Some tritagonists are also closely associated with the deuteragonist such as Asuka Kasen and Little Jacob. Some tritagonists who have known the protagonist for a while are Ashley Butler, Hsin Jaoming, and all of the tritagonists in Grand Theft Auto V.

List of Prominent Tritagonists[]

There are no set "main tritagonist" in the 2D Universe titles, as all of the major characters in the games (other than the deuteragonist) have the same level of importance as the other bosses.
