Lance: "Shh!"
Vic: "Don't you shush me!"
Lance: "Keep your voice down..."
Vic: "No! You can barely tie your own shoelaces and you're tellin' me how to behave..."
Lance: "WILL YOU SHUT UP, YOU STUPID GORILLA?! THE PLACE IS BUGGED! THE DEA IS ONTO US! HAPPY NOW?!"
Lance Vance tells his brother about the DEA bugs

Turn on, Tune in, Bug out is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, given to protagonist Victor Vance by his brother Lance from his apartment in Washington Beach, Vice City.

Mission[]

Victor stops by the his brother's apartment and finds that the place has been bugged by the DEA. Vic decides to destroy the bugging antennas, which have been placed on the roofs of the city's police stations. He obtains a rocket launcher from Ammu-Nation and travels through the city destroying the antennas. After destroying the last antenna, he evades the police and the mission is complete.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Go to Ammu-Nation.
  • The DEA are collecting evidence against you. Hurry up!
  • Collect a free rocket launcher from the shop keeper.
  • Exit the shop.
  • Use the rocket launcher to destroy the antenna on the Washington Beach police station roof.
  • Grenades can also be used to destroy antennae.
  • For every antenna you destroy, it takes the DEA longer to collect evidence.
  • Destroy the antenna on the Little Havana police station roof.
  • Destroy the antenna on the Downtown police station roof.
  • You've stopped the DEA collecting evidence! Now reduce your wanted level to zero.

Reward[]

The reward for completing this mission is $300 and the mission The Colonel's Coke is unlocked.

Transcript[]

Transcript
Victor Vance is at his brother's apartment, where he finds Lance panicking and searching for stuff.
Victor: Lance?
Lance: (not in subtitles) Oh, no...
Victor: Lance, get over here and explain yourself!
Lance shushes his brother.
Victor: Stop acting like a child.
Lance shushes again.
Victor: Don't you shush me!
Lance: (whispering) Keep your voice down...
Victor: No. You can barely tie your own shoelaces and you're tellin' me how to behave?
Lance: WILL YOU SHUT UP, YOU STUPID GORILLA?! THE PLACE IS BUGGED! THE DEA IS ONTO US! HAPPY NOW?!
Victor goes outside to look for bugs in other places. Lance follows him.
Lance: Hey, where you going, man?
Victor: We're gonna have bugs in all our places.
Lance: And by the time you've found them all, we'll be halfway through a long jail term!
Victor: What am I supposed to do?!
Lance: These bugs transmit long range, so knock out all the police antennae. The DEA won't even get a signal from these things!
Victor goes on his own to Ammu-Nation and gets a Rocket Launcher pre-paid by Lance before heading to the Washington Beach Police Station and destroying the antennas, then going towards the Little Havana Police Station and doing the same, before heading to the Downtown Police Station and destroying the final antennas. Now, with the police and the FBI on his tail, Victor manages to lose the heat.

Post-Mission Pager Message[]

Trivia[]

  • The mission's name is a reference to "Turn on, tune in, drop out", a phrase commonly attributed to counterculturist Timothy Leary.
  • If the player resprays the car at Pay 'n' Spray while having a wanted level before destroying all antennas, the wanted level will only disappear for a few seconds before going back up.
  • When the player arrives at the Little Havana Police Station, a Police Maverick appears at the station with two police officers hanging on the helicopter's right side. If looked closely, the pilot sits in the front right seat of the helicopter.
    • If the player kills the two gunners on the helicopter, it will fly away and catch fire.
  • The antennas can be destroyed only in the given order. Each pair of antennas spawn on the police stations only after the destruction of the previous pair.
  • Victor must pick up a rocket launcher at Ammu-Nation even if he has one.
