The V-65 Molotok (Russian: молоток, lit. "Hammer") is a military fighter jet featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Smuggler's Run update.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The V-65 Molotok is a Korean War era fighter jet primarily based on the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15/MiG-17, with the wing positioning of the Yakovlev Yak-30 and the stabilizer setup of the North American F-86 Sabre. The fact that it can carry rocket pods seems to emulate the MiG-15bis/MiG-17AS, which is the upgraded ground attack version of the MiG-15/MiG-17.
The Molotok is depicted with a small fuselage, featuring a split circular intake, two hatches for the nose landing gear and a small cockpit with a sliding canopy. The main section features swept wings with small fins on top, along with the corresponding ailerons on the outer sides and the hatches of the main gear. On the tail boom, the aircraft features a tall vertical stabilizer with a protruding section, two horizontal stabilizers and two air brakes located around the engine bay, which expand and retract under aileron pressure.
The interior of the aircraft is small, featuring a worn green flight deck with black/yellow dials and markings written in Russian, denoting its origin. A battery can be seen behind the pilot seat.
The primary colour of the vehicle is applied on the entirety of the aircraft, while the secondary one is applied on the portion around the intake and the wingtips. It uses a set of wheels that are identical to the ones seen in industrial vehicles like the Mule, the Benson and the Phantom, with the main gear wheels being thinner in appearance.
The vehicle is armed with a set of machine guns presumably based on the Nudelman-Rikhter NR-23 and the Nudelman N-37 (both standard armaments of the real-life inspiration of the Molotok), given the similar barrel designs. It can be also modified with missile launchers resembling UB-16-57 rocket pods, albeit altered with 15 internal tubes.

Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Vehicle[]
The Molotok performs relatively similar to the other jets available in the game, but has a slightly lower top speed and acceleration compared to the Hydra. The aircraft also has rather poor maneuverability, having the worst turning circle among fighter aircraft. However, it sports powerful air-brakes that allows the aircraft to quickly slow down, and provides more leeway before the engines shut down. These air-brakes allow the Molotok to land easily on junctions, roofs, helipads and other hard to reach areas. The Molotok is one of, if not the most forgiving jet that an inexperienced player can learn to operate as it provides smooth and easily controllable flight with no strange quirks. The glide profile of the aircraft with the engine switched off or rendered inoperable is also excellent and the aircraft can be emergency landed easily under those conditions. The undercarriage setup also provides good stability on the ground, but the aircraft tends to lean backwards when encountering small slopes.
The aircraft is powered by a single turbojet engine, which is fitted with an afterburner/reheat. It shares the sound with the P-996 LAZER, the Hydra and the Besra.
Defense[]
The Molotok has upgradable armor, making it a relatively durable aircraft. Just like the other Smuggler's Run aircraft, the Molotok has significantly improved resistance to impact damage, making smaller crashes less punishing. It can also withstand two direct hits from the Homing Launcher, although it will be destroyed on the third hit. Just like other airplanes, the control surfaces of the Molotok will be destroyed instantly if caught in the blast radius of any explosive. The Heavy Sniper Mk II equipped with explosive rounds will make short work of the aircraft, only three hits are required to completely destroy it. However, this aircraft is well armored against regular bullet damage as it will take 18 shots from the Heavy Sniper to destroy the Molotok.
Countermeasures[]
The vehicle can be fitted with countermeasures to improve its defensive capabilities against homing missiles, each one with their own attributes:
- The Chaff countermeasure disrupts the targeting system from missile launchers, rendering them unable to lock on the aircraft for five seconds. They have a delay of five seconds before being used again and only have 10 uses.
- The Flare countermeasure drops various flares from around the rear of the aircraft, which can "disorient" the homing missile in order to avoid chasing the aircraft. They have a delay of three seconds before being used again and only have 20 uses.
- The Smoke countermeasure creates a trail of smoke that can disorient the enemy pilot, but its effectiveness is very limited, as the trail is large enough for a standard cockpit and the enemy pilot would just need to move away and follow the smoke trail. It has no delay between uses and can be used indefinitely.
Weaponry[]
- Machine Gun: By default, the Molotok has two machine guns mounted on either side of its nose/front intake, which behave like most front-facing machine guns on most aircraft introduced in the Smuggler’s Run update. These machine guns are ideal for air-to-air engagements, as they can cause severe damage to unarmored aircraft, provided the pilot manages to stay behind it. The damage inflicted against vehicles is greater than with the Heavy Sniper, with a base damage of 250 (versus 216 and its Mk II variant 230), and the machine guns on either side have a fire rate of 300 rounds per minute. They have a maximum range of 250 meters/820 feet and are rather accurate at close range due to the short distance between them, similarly to those from the Tula.
- Missiles: The Molotok can be equipped with missile pods, which can be fired with either "homing on" or with "homing off". These missiles have a 300 meter/984 foot lock-on range, and can also fly for five seconds before detonating and can travel 540 meters/1772 feet, but have "poor" tracking and will struggle to hit moving targets. These missiles do not have a "reload" cooldown time, like the Hydra or Buzzard, and can be fired every second, similarly to the Savage.
The Molotok is not a particularly capable dogfighting aircraft. The poor maneuverability, in addition to the lower top speed, limits its ability as such and the lack of explosive rounds in its guns prevents outright destruction of enemy planes. Against ground targets, however, the Molotok fares respectably well if making use of the missiles. Good positioning can increase the chance of homing missile hits while steep angle diving attacks with the landing gear down allow close placement of multiple unguided missiles into a target area.

Trivia[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- According to the designation system of USAF, the "V-" prefix is primarily applied to VTOL aircraft, although this also covers STOL aircraft, which the second one is true with the Molotok's performance as a short-takeoff aircraft.
- The Molotok when bought is equipped with a unique primary paint color. It resembles a metallic steel with a unique shading and once changed can not be reverted.
- The Molotok was incorrectly spelled "Moltok" on Rockstar Games Social Club. This has been corrected in later updates.
- Despite featuring a single set of machine guns with the same properties, the right cannon appears to have a larger diameter than the left gun, which in theory should have higher caliber and thus, should cause more damage. However, this is physically accurate, as the MiG-15 and the MiG-17 had a 37mm cannon and twin 23mm cannons.
- The front gear wheel partially clips with the seat when retracted.
- The camo schemes and markings on the "Jungle Fighter" and "Sprayed Half Camo" liveries are similar to those of the MiG-17s and Shenyang J-5s in North Vietnamese service during the Vietnam War.
