Custom vehicle license plates were first explored in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, where Love Fist's limousine features LUVFIST plates, the only instance of a custom license number in the game. With the use of more flexible license plate graphics in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, more vehicles would appear with customized license numbers. However, the custom license plates cannot be saved in garages; once a car is saved in a garage, its plate will become random. Custom license plates returned for Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online with the option of the player creating up to 30 of their own custom plates through the iFruit App. With the GTA Online: Import/Export DLC the unique license plates were added to 96 specific vehicles that are only available after sourcing them as a CEO of an Organization

The license number translates as either "A two-timing mother fucker", reflecting Big Smoke's two-faced attitude towards both the Grove Street Family and the Ballas, or "A two-tonne mother fucker", which is a play on his obesity, an early running gag in the game between Ryder, Carl, and Sweet. It is also a possible reference to the Cypress Hill song "A To The K", as the hook goes "A to the mother fucking K homeboy, A to the mother fucking K". This is a reference to the AK-47 rifle.

NOS	Monster	Michelle Cannes's monster truck. A reference to nitrous oxide car boosts and Michelle's job as a mechanic.

OMEGA	Washington	Mike Toreno's car, a likely reference to clandestine government organizations and operations. Used during Outrider and Vertical Bird.

Glitches

After patch 1.07, there was a massive glitch involving the custom license plates of player's personal vehicles in story mode. The license plates on the personal vehicles of players would change so that they would read "ALAN 0". This glitch would get applied to the protagonists' personal vehicles (such as Michael's Obey Tailgater), and it would also rarely get applied to any vehicle inside one of the player's safehouse garages. This glitch seemed to be more prevalent among players who have a GTA Online account, and have used the Rockstar Social Club application to change their online vehicle's license plate. It is unknown what factor of the game caused this glitch, but it appears to have been patched at the 1.09 update, as it is not present in subsequent versions.

Trivia

In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, only the front plate of Ryder's Picador reads 'SHERM'. The rear plate is a standard plate.
Rarely, custom made license plates made using the Ifruit App may change to a random registration number, sadly, this cannot be fixed.
